Initially I would have recommended Prof Spillane until I experienced complications at which time I found him to be dismissive, unsympathetic and in my view did not show proper duty of care. I was referred to him by my GP for breast cancer and had a single mastectomy last October in which he inserted a breast implant. I subsequently went through radiotherapy in December and everything was going well until a few weeks ago when my breast started to become hard, swollen and painful. I went in to see Prof Spillane who confirmed it was capsular contracture and he referred me to a plastic surgeon who I was told would call me to make an appointment to see him. After a few days of not hearing anything I called the plastic surgeon and was told I couldn’t get an appointment until mid May which was several weeks away. I knew I couldn’t wait that long due to the pain and found myself an alternate plastic surgeon who saw me pretty much straight away and who was seriously concerned that it was more than just a capsular contracture. 2 weeks later I have had surgery to remove the implant and am on IV antibiotics to treat a serious staph infection. I am very disappointed that Prof Spillane hadn’t treated my condition more seriously when I presented to him 3-4 weeks ago, hadn’t followed through to ensure that I had an immediate appointment with the plastic surgeon he referred me to and hadn’t picked up potential infection as the cause. I’ve also since learnt that having radiotherapy after a breast implant is inserted significantly increases the risk of complications which I was not informed about to be able to make my own decision on whether I should postpone any reconstruction treatment. I am now with an excellent and very caring plastic surgeon who is helping me through my recovery and who I will entrust to perform a breast flap reconstruction down the track.

Getting information out of him is like pulling teeth. Messed up my treatment by prescribing a drug two weeks before my lumpectomy but didn't document it in my record. No-one including pathologist and medical oncologist had any idea they were assessing a pre-treated tumour; parts of my pathology report are invalid. I was deemed ineligible for a clinical trial because of the pre-treated tumour - the trial may have been beneficial but I'll never know.

I was referred to Professor Spillane for a cancer operation by my gp. The best possible decision of my life. Prof Spillane is a wonderful surgeon, easy to talk to, answers all questions. A very special man. I wouldn’t be here today without his skill and care. I felt very safe and secure with him. All of his staff are also very polite, friendly and easy to understand.

Hands down the best breast surgeon in the country. Seen many others who could not fix my issue however Prof Spillane is a magician. Super intelligent and gets the job done with a minimum number of appointments.

I was very fortunate a friend recommended Dr Spillane to me when I was diagnosed. He is a highly skilled and experienced surgeon. One of the most caring and professional doctors I have met. Great result and great doctor.

Prof .Spillane zones straight onto your problem, suggests his recommended treatment then the next step is your decision . What else could you want ? He does not waste his time nor yours. I had 100% success. I am about to go back with a problem in a different body position.
