I absolutely would not recommend this periodontist! His recommendations will always be the most expensive treatment method. He’s there to make as much cash as he can especially if you have insurance coverage. I went to see him about 15-20 years ago for my gum issues. He of course said I need gum surgery as well as my husband and if we didn’t do it, our teeth would fall out within 10 years. I told him that maybe I have an infection because I had some pus in a section of gum that wouldn’t go away even after regular 3 month visits for cleaning at my dentist and with good home care (brushing, flossing, gum stimulant). He was surprised when I mentioned a simple periodontal method from my own research to avoid gum surgery and asked how I knew about it. He assumes his patients are not very educated and will do everything he recommends. I did some deep scaling at his office with his hygienist but not the gum surgery. Turns out that I was having some stomach issues in which my family physician had me test for the h pylori bacteria which came out positive. I was given a strong 2 types of antibiotic treatment and within the first or second day of taking them I unexpectedly had an instant change in my mouth for the better! The pus was gone and the unpleasant taste in my mouth and my stomach discomfort was back to normal!! After almost 2 decades I still have my teeth and my gums have improved since then. My instinct about a possible infection was correct when I mentioned it to him after all. In the few visits I had with him, he would always say, “make an intelligent decision “ when he would recommend a treatment method which I’m sure he used this line on all his patients. Yes I and my husband did make intelligent decisions and that was to not do what he said and never go back to him!!! We both still have our teeth by the way. I expressed my views about Dr. Gelfand to my dentist (who we think is great and have been with him for about about 35 years). I should have complained years ago but never got around to it. Very cathartic I am now writing this review. Stay away….only interested in making as much money as he can. I wouldn’t even give him 1 star if I could. My rating is only about him..not his staff.
