If you want to experience medical gaslighting then this is the doctor to see. If you do not have lupus then he will not entertain anything. Rheumatic conditions that have already been diagnosed such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, psoriatic arthritis, etc. will all be labeled as fibromyalgia or chronic pain syndrome. Expect to give detailed information to the fellow doctor only for Dr. Touma to enter the room at the end for a very brief period and not address any of the issues. He starts off being nice then by the second or third appointment he starts to be very rude and condescending asking why you’re seeing him again when no progress has been made and joint deformities are progressing. Every referral and test that is supposed to be ordered never happens and when you follow up, they have no clue what you are talking about. When you ask the receptionist, Marlene about it as well, she cannot be bothered. Expect to have calls unanswered by her along with voicemails and emails left on read. She has a “union” type of attitude. Between her and Dr. Touma, I do not know who is worse. The fellows are great at capturing information but these two are an absolute joke. Don’t let Dr. Touma’s accolades fool you. He may be a knowledgeable doctor and scientist but has no bedside manner. He can’t leave his ego behind. Don’t be surprised if feels the need to head home in the middle of the appointment because he’s done for the day even though you waited 2 hours past the appointment time to see him. Also, it’s worth mentioning that he only runs 1-2 clinics a month which means in house appointments. Therefore, all of his patients must see him on these days if you can even get an appointment. Once you schedule an appointment, it will be cancelled all the time because he is “out of the country” or has a “meeting” which is unprofessional. If it was a one off, I would understand but it happened countless times when seeing him. I no longer go to his office due to the lack of care. I would not be surprised if more reviews come up exposing his behaviour and how snaps at patients when they are being nice. He is a walking red flag.

I sought doctor Touma’s expertise as a second opinion. I am very thankful that he accepted my case. The examination was very thorough. He confirmed my suspicions that I don’t have an autoimmune disease and pointed me in the right direction. I have since seen the right specialist, got diagnosed and started treatment. I will be forever grateful to Doctor Touma and his assistant for genuinely caring about my health and helping me in such a difficult time.

Dr. Touma is an angel who referred me to the right autoinflammatory specialist and ran the right blood tests that previous rheumatologists haven't. He has saved my life, along with my other specialists he has referred me to. Thank you Dr. Touma.

One exceptional Doctor, the best I have dealt with ever. He listens, he cares, he engages his patients in their own treatment, he is calm and collected and very personable.

Dr. Touma is very kind, patient and thorough. The Lupus Clinic team is professional and extremely supportive. I am very grateful to have Dr. Touma as my doctor. Getting lupus is probably the worst thing that happened in my life, but being with Dr. Touma and the Lupus clinic is definitely the silver lining.

I have been seeing Dr. Touma since December 2017. He is an excellent doctor. Dr Touma and his team diagnosed me with lupus and helped to understand my disease and the treatment for this disease. He is very knowledgeable and very kind.

Dr Touma’s dismissive attitude and demeanour clearly demonstrate an unwillingness to collaborate with patients wanting to take an active role in their healthcare. I had previously asked about his style as a doctor and was told he believes in collaboration between himself and patients, however he’s shown this is not the case. He walked out on me while I was asking questions and talked about me with a resident as if I wasn’t in the room. I presented with non typical lupus symptoms (that resulted in two days in emergency) however he disregarded my experience and made no effort to explore an atypical flare. The clinic itself is run well and the residents are excellent, however Dr. Touma’s attitude and professionalism were disappointing.

Completely thorough and understanding! He’s in and out quickly but the appointment never feels rushed or ineffective! So grateful to have been referred to his clinic. I’ve been through my fair share of rheumatologists and he has certainly been the most helpful!
