One AMAZING dr in ER. I went last week as I was quite sick and the dr that helped me then, was useless. Dr Borthwick ran X-rays got me on the meds I needed, and was polite, prompt and efficient. Not sure why all the complaints on here, unless you people need to be coddled. He was truly awesome! And i thank him very much.

This guy should not be allowed to practice medicine, if he hates his job so much he should quit. He has zero empathy for patients.

Emergency "doctor" in Kamloops. Hope to God he is not assigned to you. I was his 2nd patient of the day, and he acted like I was a huge inconvenience to his day. Rude, rushed, abrupt and...basically useless. Notice how many 1-star ratings he has received? You would think one of the bosses would be paying attention to this.

Although not as charming as many other doctors I've seen, he was very thorough and listened considerately to my complaints... He ran the tests and discovered an issue that my GP had brushed off as nothing for years. He then referred me to a ortho surgeon which was a great.

Like another commentor below, I noticed Dr. B doesn't make a lot of eye-contact. Is this really something to discriminate against though? (I have difficulty making eye-contact too and people just have to put down their prejudices and accept that we're different that way ) He just came across as more of a serious Dr. rather than one of the more smarmy ones who placates you with pleasantries but who don't investigate my health problems as thoroughly.

Completely dismissed my pain, sent me for an x-ray in ER that had nothing to do with source of pain...discharged me with a prescription for morphine and dismissive comment about not always being able to identify source of extreme pain. A second visit to ER a few days later got me properly diagnosed and into emergency surgery on disintegrating vertebrae in my spine.

Drove 120 kms in extreme pain in hopes of getting to a facility that could provide help as our rural hospital does not have the amenities available to make a solid diagnosis. Found him to be extremely short, rude and did not once make eye contact with me. I’ve worked in the medical system and completely understand how it works. He all but accused me of Doctor shopping. I told him in no way was I looking for meds but wanted a proper diagnosis. He did no testing what so ever and made me feel completely disrespected. He did refer me to a neurosurgeon which I greatly appreciated. There are very few doctors now a days that are willing to dig deep and get to the root of difficult medical issues. Sooooooo disappointed

DR. BORTHWICK is the most knowledgeable and thorough doctor I have ever come across in the RIH emergency. He made me feel safe. He does come across as a bit quiet or introverted, however it is obvious he genuinely cared about my health and life and wanted to get to the bottom of my illness. Obviously, the ER is for only emergencies and yet many Kamloopsians use it like a walk-in clinic which places an incredible amount of strain on all emergency staff, so I appreciate that great doctors like Borthwick are willing to stay in Kamloops, when so many of them are jumping ship.
