Wonderful man. He's saved a lot of lives, mine included. He came out of retirement at least once because of his passion for helping people. Now he is fully retired, but he remains the best psychiatrist I have ever had by a wide margin. Thank you Dr Johnson for all your help over the 6 years I was your patient. Happy retirement!

I was referred to him via Walkin Clinic. It took me several appointments to finally get a referral to the psychiartrist because doctors tend to disbelieve that ADHD/ADD leads to depression and kills self confidence. I did some google research and I came upon the article that talked about his past. Although I was concerned and afraid, I still went to my first appointment because I really needed to change my life. I found him much easier to talk to than the female clinical counselor that I talked to in the past. Counselors tend to have competition so they push you to take the courses that they want to teach. Although I was asking help for ADHD, that counselor pushed me to treat depression first. I quit going to counseling since then because I felt it was a rip off. What I like about seeing psychiatrist is that if you have referrals, you do not have to feel anxious and stressed that every minute is taking away your money. I think Dr. Johnson is not compassionate like a counselor or school teachers, but he is more practical and does his job quickly. He would fill out the forms to help you financially. The first medication did not work so I suggested him what I want to take. He prescribed it for me. He does not push patients to take the medication that he believes in. He would listen to your request. Pros- If you can or prefer to take responsibility for your health and have plans what to do and where to go, he may be the right doctor for you. I take in track of what I take and research side effects by my own. Cons - I don't think he remembers me after few appointments and he does not check his notes before appointments. So, if you prefer to have somebody more compassionate, reliant, ready-to-see-you kind of Doctor, he's not for you. If you feel uncomfortable to re-explain your situation or experience, I wouldn't recommend him.

I have struggled with acute anxiety my whole life. I have been to a number of psychiatrists and psychologists over the past 10 years (now age 65) with little if any success. Dr. Johnson put me on a medication and the medication has changed my life. Great work Dr. Johnson and thanks!

I was stuck in a depressed state due to my undiagnosed disorder and financial situation. Immediately, Dr Johnson accurately found the source of my depression and provided me treatment and resources to help me get better. During my first visit, he voluntarily filled out the paperwork to put me on a medication coverage plan in consideration of my finances (while other doctors would have refuse to fill out any type of paperwork without a fee).

Two months after my first visit, my life was back on track and my confidence increased dramatically. I moved out of the city to pursue my goals but continued to get support from Doctor Johnson. He is very responsive to my emails. I truly feel like I wouldn’t be where I am without him.

To all the people talking about his past, I honestly didn’t see that side in him at all. I can see why he may be a bad fit for people who just need babying, but if you go in with an open mind and a determination to get better, you won’t be disappointed.

I have seen Dr. Johnson for the past five years. He is by far the best psychiatrist that I have ever had. I suffer from bipolar disorder and anxiety disorder. He listens well and provides great feedback. He is very knowledgeable, non-judgemental and helpful. Dr. Johnson has changed my life. I am so thankful to have found him and that he is such a great psychiatrist. I would definitely recommend him to anyone for any psychiatric illness. I rate him 5 out of 5.

I have been seeing Dr. Gordon Johnson for about 4 years for ADD and PTSD/anxiety. He has been incredibly helpful, informative and non-judgmental. He is forward thinking and provides alternatives to drug therapy. He is a great listener, gets to the root of the problem and provides counselling. I find him to be very professional and responsive to an emergency request. I highly recommend him.

Amazing psychiatrist. He diligently helped me come off all the psychotropic and antidepressant drugs that I was on after long term use from PTSD. We connected right away and worked very well together. He is always well read on his professional development as well as nutritional benefits inherent in recovery from PTSD. He is very forward thinking in the connection between the microbiome and how it relates to mental illness. He was always forthright and honest with me.

Perhaps we were simply a bad fit, but Dr Johnson had a tendency to talk down to me during our appointments and generally disregarded everything from my frustrations with the techniques to a bad reaction to my medication. Only returned to him the last few times at my GP's insistence, as it is hard to come by a referral in this city. Deeply regret that choice, now.

Super good doctor, highly recommend him. He really knows how to help and does not readily prescribe meds. He is a counsellor and listens to what you have to say. We need doctors like Dr. Johnson who really care about their patients and counsel to get the the root of the problem instead of just prescribing meds and sending you on your way. He has years of experience in psychiatry and keeps up to date on new information. I find him to be very professional and probably one of the top psychiatrists in Victoria if not THE TOP in his profession.
