She doesn’t listen and also doesn’t believe what you tell her. As many others have said the is definitely not very compassionate.

Does not listen. Is not helpful. Talks over you and treats patients like gutter trash. Have seen her twice. Once in her office and once in E.R. both times I had the same experience. If I ever go back to the E.R. and it is her. I will just leave. Today I was in tears after seeing her.

Terrible does not listen to family members with POA and dismisses any symptoms or concerns you have. Makes it very difficult to get any help to make the life of your loved one the best it can be. Its very sad.

I have a family member who is her patient and I attend appointments with them. Always leave feeling like we weren’t heard, when tests are requested she dismisses them quickly, saying they aren’t needed, barely lets you get your words out before she cuts you off. Doesn’t seem to have time for elderly patients. Wish there was other Dr. taking on new patients.

We saw Dr. Steyl in the ER, after waiting over 6 hours. We knew the moment my spouse fell that there was something seriously wrong with his hip. We felt completely unheard by Dr. Steyl. In our 10-minute visit she stated he had a bruised hip and should go home and start walking on it with crutches. She prescribed pain killers, which my spouse refused after already been given three doses in the ER, while waiting to see a doctor. When questioned about the x-ray, Dr. Steyl stated "there is no break, just a bad bruise". A few hours after we were sent home, Dr. Steyl called to say a radiologist saw a break on the x-ray. The next day a different ER doctor ordered another, more explicit hip x-ray and consulted with an orthopedic surgeon from Kamloops. I ended up driving my spouse to Kamloops, where he got his hip surgery the next day. It was not the wait time in the Williams Lake ER that upset us as much as the incompetence and arrogance of Dr. Steyl when she finally saw us. If she had listened to what we were trying to tell her, and if she had waited for the radiologist's report, my spouse could have been in surgery sooner.

Dr Steyl is lovely. She has been my family doctor for 8 years and I just hope she stays here. She doesn't sugar coat things and is very direct which can sound abrasive, she also likes to keep her practice punctual and requests that you only bring one issue at a time. For these reasons I believe people have been put off and given poor reviews. That being said, she has cared for me and my family through cancer, a major chronic illness, diabetes, sleep apnea, anxiety, ADHD, ASD... She listens when we talk, has investigated symptoms until we have found what's wrong, referred us to specialists and kept up with regular testing that needs to be done. I find her to be a very caring compassionate doctor when you get to know her.

Does not listen to her clients & doesnt seem to care about why you have booked an appointment. Tries to push medication when it is not needed & do tests that are not required. Lack of record keeping & blames your health on stress, anxiety & depression instead of actually figuring out why & push medications. I would switch doctors if we had enough in town but it seems to be difficult to keep any good ones here. #terribledoctor
