    1. My 85 year old mother was diagnosed with renal cancer in August 2010. At diagnosis, the cancer had already spread to several parts on her spine. She suffered terribly until her death in November 2010. A radiology oncologist who saw her xrays just weeks before her death told us that she should have received radiation treatments to treat for pain even before her kidney was removed. Dr. Patel did not insist that she get radiation treatments. To be fair, the radiation oncologist said that he might have missed the extent of her cancer without his particular training. The lesson: make sure a radiation oncologist reads xrays to get the best treatment. 2. My siblings and I practically begged the doctor and his staff to recommend hospice as we could see that our mother was suffering and we needed help. It took much too long for that recommendation to come, at great to cost to our mother and our family.
