I was a basketball teammate of Dr. McClains. I know that he cares about people and he has always been a honest person. In 1988 I was one of the stars on the basketball team and I got the MVP of the district guess Mr. McClains was happy for me just like he had won it. He has never been a know it all. I don't know why anyone would post negative stuff on the Web about him. I could call him now and he would talk to me like he did 23 years ago!

Had a hernia repaired by Dr. McClain and so far no complaints regarding the surgery. However, other than the initial consult, he hasn't made himself available and his staff is no more helpful. I was scheduled for surgery a week later but they wouldn't tell me what I was getting surgery for until the day of. Luckily the anesthesiologist informed me of the procedure when she called me ~48 hrs prior. I had never had a surgery before and was by all means worried and he seemed to have little to no regard for that whatsoever, I would not recommend him.

Dr McClain is an outstanding doctor. When I was diagnosed with col/rectal cancer I was told by another local surgeon that I would have to have surgery and wear a bag for the rest of my life. I was not happy with that and made the decision to contact MD Anderson. In the mean time I heard thru the grapevine about a new surgeon in town and got a completely different story. I was fitted with an ostomy bag in March 2010 and in October 2010 Dr McClain reversed it. I haven't had any problems since then. And I am so thankful that I didn't just go with the first surgeon I was sent to. There seems to have been a great deal of animosity directed toward Dr. McClain because he is being chosen over long time surgeons of Nacogdoches but we as patients have the right to choose the surgeon that we feel the most confident in. I cannot quit singing his praises and will refer everyone I know to him. Leita Moore

My husband had a procedure done last night. Dr. McClain came in during the night (on mothers day) to perform his surgery. He was WONDERFUL. He spent the time before surgery to talk with me and answered any questions or concerns that I had. He came straight to me after the proc. was done and let me know how everything went and what to look for in the oncoming days. He was helpful and had the best bedside manners that I have seen in any dr here in Nac. Thank you Dr. Mclain for getting my husband through this surgery and taking the time to make sure the family is ok as well!

Dr. McClain is an exceptional doctor. My wife had a procedure @ Memorial Hospital. His knowledge, professionalism & bedside manners were great. He took the time to explain the procedure in detail. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing his services. Gary Roberts

Dr. McClain's bedside manner was exceptionally good. He is very compassionate, considerate and takes his time to listen to your concerns. I can not express how comfortable he made me and my family feel. He took as much time as I needed to explain my procedure so that I would fully understand what was going to take place during surgery. The post-op care by him and his staff was an added bonus. I highly recommend him to anyone of any age. My family was very pleased with him as well.

I had reservations about using Dr. McClain due to reading some poor reviews on his bedside manner. I am very glad I took it upon myself to check him out. Dr. McClain was a very friendly professional doctor. One of the nicest I have met. He answered all the questions I had about my THD procedure and was very responsive to any support I needed. Very high marks. A pleasure.

Dr. McClain performed my laparoscopic colon resection and I was completely pleased with his competence as a surgeon and his bedside manner towards me as a patient. He was very down-to-earth and willing to answer my questions and concerns about the surgery. He spent as much time as necessary making sure I understood the surgery and felt as comfortable as possible with the procedure and its risks before undergoing surgery. This surgery is his specialty and something that was not done in our town up until now (laparoscopically). For this reason a lot of people are hesitant or uncertain about undergoing it as such, and prefer to use surgeons they are already familiar with, who are not trained in this procedure and will not perform the surgery in this manner. Dr. McClain's training in this surgical procedure, his record, and his personal characteristics and confidence as a surgeon made him my choice when making the important decision of having major surgery. I'm thankful and pleased I did.

Dr McClain performed my colonoscopy and THD surgery, and I was extremely pleased with him, his staff, and the results of both procedures. He answered my questions knowledgeably beforehand, and was available by cell phone to address any problems throughout the weekend following my procedures. He listened to my concerns and was patient with his explanations, and gave me the time I needed to ask questions. I have had doctors before who were always in a hurry and it was almost impossible to talk to them. He never talked down to me or acted as though my concerns were unimportant. His main concern was with my comfort and well-being during the procedure and during my recovery.

Dr. McClain is an complete narcissist who I witnessed treating the hospital staff, as well as other doctors, condescendingly. I was appalled by his bedside manner and his "know it all" personality. I would not recommend him in the least.
