I have paid big time for having surgery with this guy. Foot was better however due to a lengthened Achilles I have limited movement and walk with a limp. A screw in my heel has skewed my foot so it faces outwards. I am now several years later facing a knee replacement due to an uneven walk. I will always walk with a limp. Absolutely do not recommend this cowboy.

A whole new ankle, amazing. I am walking naturally after six weeks and will be back on the tennis court in a few months when the Doctor says so. Thank you AW for this minor miracle on my 78th birthday.

DISASTER! Please get a second opinion. I have had x 5 surgeries with Dr Wines on my ankle and have gotten significantly worse after each surgery. As a young male with no medical expertise, I simply went with his advice. I went to see him hoping to run faster - now I can barely walk and my work, family etc has suffered greatly.
Appears knowledgeable and calm, but most likely went in for surgery when it was most likely not required and it has been the second most negative impact on my life.
Other surgeons have since questioned the need for so much surgery (x 3 arthroscopes, x 2 MACCI).
Highly recommend several opinions.

Have had two surgeries on the same ankle by Dr Andrew Wines and am not satisfied with the outcome as the same swelling has reappeared for the third time. Prior to the surgery he very much stated the swell will not occur again but 3-4 plus years later it has. Aside from that I would not say the surgery was professionally performed given the severe impact effect caused on the surrounding nerves. In comparison, the ankle surgery performed at Westmead hospital 19 years ago, did not disturb the nerves.
Placing disclaimers on patients to warn of nerve disruption during surgery only provides protection for the surgeon and unfavourable to the patient - it simply allows the surgeon the opportunity to not have a proper duty of care.

Dr Wines has operated on me twice, with great results. I have complications from an adolescent injury. He recommended I see a pain management specialist before rushing straight into surgery. He sets realistic expectations for recovery and improvement. Very humble and friendly. It’s a shame he’s so popular now as he’s sometimes short on time. His reception team are lovely.

Dr Wines is an extremely ethical, careful and considered foot/ankle surgeon who has been trying to avoid foot surgery for me if possible as he explained it’s extremely invasive and such long recovery times. I have a complex health history and multiple joint and neurological problems which Dr Wines helped me first address by doing inpatient prehab to try to recondition my body whilst letting my damaged feet (both of them) heal. This inpatient prehab stay has helped me enormously in terms of general functioning and strength.

I’ve had severe reactions to medications so Dr Wines has convinced me to wait three months with orthotics first to see if the medications getting out of my system improve things, even though I have literally begged for surgery as I’m desperate to get mobile again.

Dr Wines’ caution in delaying surgery for three months of more rehab and orthotics is the correct one, despite my frustration. Rather than cashing in on my injuries as another foot surgeon was keen to do without any prehab or post surgery rehab, Dr Wines has been highly ethical, knowledgeable and kind.

He is truly a patient focused surgeon looking at my case holistically and carefully, for which I am eternally grateful as I was struggling with so many problems joint wise and neurologically.

I will have no hesitation in following his surgical advice if my feet do not recover on their own and need operating on. A genuine professional and trustworthy, this is especially important for foot surgery as they’re so complex with so many bones, ligaments and variable weight bearing vectors.

I have no positive words to say about this Dr.
He suggested a bone graft and metal plate inserted in my
foot to alleviate chronic pain which turns out is due to hip flexor and back issues. Thankfully I decided against the surgery following a second opinion. Pardon the pun but what a bonehead!!

Ive had Dr Andrew Wines for two surgeries at Royal North Shore (public) Hospital in Sydney. Hard working, caring and has the utmost respect of his team and (me) as patient. I’m seeing him again for another surgery in a few weeks and am very happy and comfortable to be in his care. He is a five star orthopaedic surgeon.

Night and day. Saw him after a disaster consult with another surgeon. Dr Wines knows what he’s doing (I have a specific condition that effects healing etc) and he was bang on the money with the way he decided to operate. Great bedside manner. On time. Kind and caring. And I’m 3 weeks into recovery and so far so good.
