Dr. Cho is amazing, Thankyou so much for your expertise in performing my surgery, and Thankyou to Pauline for being in touch with me, with all my questions, always cheerful and quick responses.
I had a Discectomy & Decompression surgery on L3, 4 & 5 on March 23, 2024 in BC at the False Creek Surgical Center. Six months prior to the surgery I was in excruciating pain and unable to stand for long & also walk for any length of time. I also had other complications and I didn’t even know it was because of my back. I finally had my Xrays & MRI on November 22, 2023 and that told the whole story.
I was in urgent need of spine surgery. There was no way of fast tracking the surgery locally, so I started doing some research on private surgical clinics in Canada. I found Horizon Clinic and Dr. Cho. From the moment I met him, I felt at ease. He was friendly and caring and he took the time to answer my questions. He was professional and I knew I could trust him. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

On Nov 6/23 I had L4 & L3 lumbar laminectomy in Vancouver. I should have done this 15 years ago. I can’t recommend Dr. Cho and his staff enough. From first appointment to surgery was less than one month. The numbness and weakness in my legs and feet have all but disappeared. Dr. Cho is a great surgeon.

I am a 71 year old dentist from BC and became literally crippled with severe spinal stenosis in the L4/L5 region in early August 2023. It was also complicated by a grade 1 spondilolisthesis. There was severe hypertrophy of the ligamenta flava and advanced facet arthropathy. As one can imagine, I was in constant sciatic pain mostly on the left side, with numbness in the ankle, heal, and toes on the left side. I was in danger of a loss of bowel control and incontinence and was told to seek emergency treatment if that started. I could barely walk more than 50 feet and the pain in my left glute was severe. Standing was uncomfortable and I was tilted to the left side and forward. Needless to say, conventional treatment offered no relief and included 15 sessions of traction, chiropractic, and finally image guided cortisone injections. Even though I had my physician send in 2 urgent requests to the neurosurgery group in Victoria, I couldn't even get a consult and I was told that any kind of surgical intervention was going to be a minimum of a year and possibly 2 years away. My life was literally on hold and I needed to take charge of my situation. I started to research private facilities throughout North America as well as internationally.I spent many hours on the internet researching my condition and treatment options. Fortunately I came across the Horizon Surgical Centre in Calgary and Dr Roger Cho who is a highly trained and skilled neurosurgeon. I filled out their online questionnaire, sent in my x-ray and MRI imaging and was then scheduled for a virtual consult. Dr Cho took a great deal of time to explain the recommended surgery, the percentages of success, and answered all my questions. His thoroughness and the confidence in his abilities instilled confidence in my choice of surgeon. I subsequently submitted more questions/concerns over the next few weeks and Dr Cho took the time to answer back. (I am very detail oriented and have enough knowledge to be dangerous). I flew to Calgary on Oct.24th and had a laminectomy and decompression surgery at L4/5 on October 26th. To say that the results were successful would be an understatement. Dr Cho's amazing expertise has literally restored my life and I am now pain free with no restriction in strength or mobility. I was literally standing straight the evening following the surgery. It is now 5 weeks after my surgery and I am doing all the things I was able to do before. I must say that the surgery was 100% successful and the future looks great. Dr Cho was warm, understanding, patient, and above all professional. I would recommend him for anyone needing spinal surgery. I cringe at the thought of what might have happened if I had waited for the public system to finally get to me. Thank you as well to Pauline at Horizon, you were wonderful !

My experience with Roger Cho has been exceptional. I received consultations from the Blusson Spine center in Vancouver, the UCLA spine clinic in LA, and from Roger Cho. He was clear, explicit in terms of what I could expect, and proposed what I thought to be the most appropriate surgery. I went ahead with a three level laminotomy using minimally invasive surgery.

I am now 4 weeks post surgery. I am 95% recovered and 100% "cured" - back to my workout routines and feeling amazing. The leg pain and numbness is completely gone, all without the more invasive and destructive proposals from the two other spine centers.

On top of that the experience was outstanding. This is how medical care should be. Communication from Pauline and Roger was clear, complete, excellent and timely. The surgical team including the nurses and the anesthesiologist (Ray) was excellent. I had to stay overnight due to the three-level nature of the surgery and the nurse to patient ratio was 3-4. So the attention I received was outstanding - unrushed, unstressed, caring, and immediately responsive.

I realize I am a sample size of 1, but this data point is a complete 10/10. If I ever needed another spine surgery (and I hope I don't), the decision as to where to go would be immediate. Thank you Roger and Pauline.

Dr Cho. What can I say. I would say without hesitation that he is the BEST orthopaedic surgeon in Canada hands down. He is a master of his craft. Amazing bed side manner and answers/explains himself remarkably well. He has now done 2 surgeries for me and has been amazing to deal with. I will never even consider letting another Doctor touch my back. Along with being a master, his staff is unbelievable as well. Pauline goes above and beyond with whatever the task may be. Replies lighting fast and makes sure whatever needs to be done is done. Thank you for everything you do. Truly the best in Canada ! Only Doctor I would recommend for any type of spine surgery. Thanks Dr Cho!!!

Dr. Cho is by far the best spine surgeon in Canada! I was suffering from excrutiating pain for over 2 years when a search brought me to Dr. Cho's website. My email was answered by Pauline a couple weeks later but the path to having my life back started that day. Being a resident of Ontario (where the healthcare system would rather you just go die) made many hurdles to finally have my surgery but the hassle was worth it in the end.
On December 23 2022 I had minimally invasive decompression at L4-5 and right foramininal decompression for stenosis. I had pretty much instant relief of pain, only incision pain for less than a week. After only two weeks I can now walk without pain and it is hard to believe I have my life back. It would soon be 3 years of pain had I not found these wonderful people!
Dr. Cho even called me the day after on Christmas Eve to make sure I was doing alright and had all the time I needed to ask questions. Amazing bedside manner!
Pauline was and is always there to answer concerns and questions.
Thanks agin to this team for giving me my life back!

Dr Cho and Pauline make a formidable team - nothing is too minor for them. I wish I could give them a rating of 6.0 and would not hesitate to recommend Dr Cho to my friends. I took my daughter in law with me to the consultation and we both had questions. Dr Cho has an incredible bedside manner and answered every question no matter how trivial. I am an avid tennis player and denied issues for over 2 years but eventually it caught up with me. Dr Cho identified immediately from MRI and injection results and completed a cervical discectomy and disc replacement at C5/6. Surgery was performed in BC 6 weeks after consultation. I was never disconnected from Pauline who remained accessible to Dr Cho the entire time I was in BC. After a 10 month period of pain and disability I am now able to continue to pursue my passion for tennis. I can't thank you enough Dr. Cho and Pauline.

My experience with Dr. Cho has been nothing less then perfection. He is such a humble man and talented surgeon.

My spine issue was the result of a surgical mistake made by a different surgeon outside Calgary in 2019. That mistake left me partially disabled for over two years. After speaking to several other surgeons, only Dr. Cho picked up the error and performed surgery to correct it in 2022.

His supporting staff, Pauline at Horizon, and Tammy at Caleo have been amazing as well. I have seen two of the doctors learning under his supervision, again, great.

You are in great hands with Dr. Cho. I hope you never have to have spine surgery, but if you do, you are in the right place.
