This doctor ruined my fathers life with his negligence in a back surgery just over 10 years ago (yes we had grounds to sue ). He treated my South Asian born fellow doctor father with disdain but was extra friendly with my Caucasian blue eyed mother. Yes racism is still alive.
“Dr.” Chan didn’t properly finish the surgery sent my father home and then wouldn’t respond to his calls regarding the complications. Due to his ignoring him, precious time was lost and my father lost his mobility due to the related inflammation. This negligence robbed my dad of his mobility and my parents of an enjoyable retirement. I hope another doctor treats Chan like he treated my dad. He can go straight to hell where he belongs.

His bedside manner is horrendous! Apparently i should just take tylenol and carry on. Surgery made things even worse. Went from rarely taking any medication to having to take medication for the rest of my life. Pain that i have is painful.

I have degenerative disc disease. He should never have done a discectomy. I came out of surgery worse than went in and my follow up appointment was him saying I told him I was fine so I was fine and it was all in my head. I am not fine.

Dr Richard Chan. Neurosurgeon. The Man saved my life. Pinched nerves had caused my right arm to stop working. It was a painful ordeal. One Mr Chan did his magic. The pain was gone. Surgery was Dec 2017. Now its June 2020.
Its taken this long for all the muscles and senses of feeling to come back. He saved my life.

I will never forget him for what he did for me.

Bless you Dr Richard Chan

Thank you very much.

Dr. Richard Chan is a wonderful, brilliant surgeon and a man who cares about what he does with all people.

He has now retired and there is no question he deserves to have some fun time in life, he has dedicated his life to all of us. He saved me from becoming probably crippled for life on Feb. 7, 2019 when he operated on me.

I am eternally grateful to him and hope he now enjoys his retirement. He was and is a gift from god.

He didn't even have my file open...He asked my name and pulled wrong MRI...He looked at mine for a second and told me that I didn't have trigeminal neuralgia, he prescribed more medication and told me come back in a year to see how I am doing

My appointment was less then 10 minutes.
I dont know he is supposed to be a really good neurosurgeon for Trigeminal neuralgia
He was very unprofessional

Dr. Richard Chan has operated on me 4 times in the past 4 years. Two resections of my right frontal lobe due to a cancerous tumour- once in 2015 and again in 2019 when it came back. I had a fall after my 2019 surgery that resulted in an infected bone flap. Once it was discovered infected, Dr. Chan had me booked into the OR the following day for its removal. He's also performed my subsequent cranioplasty to replace the missing bone. Honestly, he could moonlight as a plastic surgeon my head looks so good. He has saved my life 4 times now, I pray for the last time too. If I have the unfortunate experience of needing yet another surgery, I do know I have Dr. Chan who will save me yet again as he did with my second craniotomy. It was deeper and more posterior which is higher risk for deficit. Every time I've gone under Dr. Chan's knife I've come out better for it.

People say he has no bedside manner, or that what he does have is terrible. That's simply not true. I've had him laugh with me and he has always answered all of my questions and explained things to me. Have we had our disagreements? Of course! As does any dr & patient. I will say Dr. Chan is a man of few words. He is precise and to the point, not wasting any additional time on fluff. If you cannot handle direct or occasionally blunt responses from a brilliant neurosurgeon then he is not for you. But hear me when I say this: he's saved my life 4 times. FOUR TIMES.

I literally trust this man with my life and won the lottery 4 years ago when he was on call the night I had my seizure.

He operated two years ago without listening to my concerns. Ever since the spine cord surgery, my left leg is numb. I don’t recommend him at all.
