Dr Howard L Grattan provides his opinion to help Sedgwick CMS deny medical intervention to injured California workers. He never examines the patient and claims he" takes no payment dependent on the outcome of the case." Dr. John Stahlberg received $16,000+ for written report.

The staff wouldn't provide me with a copy of me record without first demanding a $20 fee--for the first page. I'd already wasted too much money and time on this appointment, so I gave up on a copy. This physician addressed just one of the three specific areas/issues I'd referenced when making the appointment. He made no recommendations. To add insult to injury, he walked out of the exam room while I was asking a question. Rude. If I were his mother, I'd smack him. Then I'd insist he issue a refund. When I left, I actually had a new pain. You can guess where it was. I rate Dr. Grattan a "jerk."

From my first appt. I have been treated with kindness, empathy and professionalism. I have been seen for spinal stenosis and arthritis pain. I felt listened to. I felt understanding and compassion and dignity. The staff has been warm and friendly. I have already referred several people to this clinic. I have great confidence in the skill of Dr. Grattan. Prior to starting at this clinic, I have had many, many years of pain in my lower back, including nerve pain. I have had several treatments with steroid injections in my spinal nerves. They have been effective in greatly reducing my nerve pain. I am preparing to have Nerve ablation to stop the pain in my lower back from arthritis. Could not ask for a better experience in health care. Sincerely.

I agree, he was condescending, that's exactly the term I used when asking for another specialist to the receptionist, who them became rude as well. He spent more time with his face in his computer and insulting my weight, even after informing him how much weight I've lost. He was rude, lacked knowledge, then PRoceeded to suggest medications which would counteract with the symptoms I had reported already suffering. I left feeling worse then when I came in. I was under the assumption that he was a pain management physician hence, the title and the company, Columbia pain and spine institute however, apparently that is not the case. He has no need side manner nor do his assistants and exits the room without even asking if you have any questions? Talks down to you and insults you making you feel, not only worse but hopeless about ever finding the answers and help you really need regarding your condition. Never again!

I used to see Dr. Grattan when he was on St. Louis. And I loved him. He is surely missed here. I haven't found a pain management doctor that even comes close to him. I don't know how the other comment for him can be so bad? I trusted Dr Grattan 100%. I wish he would come back to stl!!!

If you want to be treated rudely, spoken to condescendingly, have just one of three specific areas of pain addressed, not have your questions answered (because he walks out of the room as you are asking), then this is the doctor for you! Yes, all that happened to me--and more! When, after two weeks I'd not been called with x-ray results, I called, left a message asking for results. A week later, I left another message, but anticipating no call in return, I picked up a copy of the report from radiology. After my third call, I was called back, and was given non-information. Lastly, when a physician knows a patient takes meds for other conditions, then prescribes other meds without checking for possible negative interactions, I think he (or she) acts irresponsibly. In my case, what he prescribed had "significant/monitor closely" warnings with two of my meds, as well as two "minor" warnings. How many patients know to ask about this?
