*Warning - Long read but very informative*

In Sept 2022, I had taken my 2 & 5 year old to get caught up on their immunizations, with Dr. Sunner who was our family doctor at the time. I have had previous encounters with her which were not the best (please refer to my posted review from sept 2021).

Upon arrival, she came into the room, asked what we were there for, and rushed out to go prepare the immunization syringes. When she returned, she appeared to be rushing and she did not greet or explain anything to my son (non attempt to make an rapport or even explain what to expect), who was 5 yrs old (thankfully, I had already informed him he would be getting shots but obvi he was not thrilled about it). She instructed me to restrain him, which I did. My son became hysterical due to his fear of needles and as the doctor attempted to inject him, he reacted and began to flail his arms and kick his feet to break out my ny restraints, which resulted in him unintentionally making contact with Dr. Sunner. Dr. Sunner then yelled, very loudly at my 5 year old "you do not kick" x2.

My son who was already traumatized from his fear of needles, now was trembling at the fact that he was just yelled at by someone whom he already percieved to be a threat to him (A strange dr. Trying to inflict harm with a needle).

After yelling at my son, it was very evident that she was annoyed, even as she proceeded with administering the immunizations to my 2 yr old, while I simultaneously was trying to comfort my son who was hysterically crying at this point.

Once the doctor left the room, I attempted to calm my son down, explaining to him why the doctor was upset. In addition to this, I intentionally stayed back to apologize to Dr. Sunner and express my feelings about her explosive reaction, which she replied "yea he's too big and *aggressive*, I Can't out myself at risk like that." Which, as a nurse, I explained that I completely understood, but he reaction was uncalled for towards my child. However, there was no sense of awareness, empathy or sensitivity for her reaction towards a young child. I even expected her to speak to my son afterwards, to explain/debrief, so that the dr/patient relationship would not be impaired. But she did not care, and quickly ran off to her next patient.

The way she yelled at my son was so harsh, that as we left , the front receptionist was so empathetic for my son, which is what made me cry...that her own staff felt what she did was wrong.

That same day, I sent Dr. Sunner an e-mail, further detailing my displeasure and informing her of her unprofessionalism. I reminded her that she should be mindful that she is working with PEOPLE and should account for the fact that there are people (adults AND kids) who are fearful of needles, procedures or just doctors in general and that our approach to providing care, as health professionals can have a huge impact.
Please read a small excerpt from the email I sent:

" My issue is NOT what you said but the manner and aggression in which you yelled at my 5 year old son and used the term "violent" to describe a terrified 5 year old. I am not here to defend his behaivour but I think we can both agree that he did not intentionally mean to kick you. I also know that you understand the fear that some people, kids especially, have with needles.
It takes a village to raise kids, and I welcome correction and feedback openly. However, I also believe in basic respect and expected more professionalism and understanding from someone we have trusted to receive care from. "

She did reply to my email, with no level of remorse for her reaction/outburst, but rather reiterating that essentially, she could not administer the immunizations to my son because he was too big for me to restrain, which could pose a risk to him and her (all of which was NOT my issue because I agree and understand). She failed to understand that from the very beginning of the appointment, she lacked basic professionalism and respect and that her explosive outburst towards a child's very resonable reaction to fear, now has earned her the label of "mean doctor".

I have since found an amazing family doctor and great walk in doctors (healthpoint clinic- ALL the doctors are great/ B&C clinic - Dr. ANKUSH GOYAL).
Dr. Sunner has many bad reviews for a reason. Even if she is the closest doctor to you, be cautious. You deserve to have a good relationship with your doctor as you are entrusting them with your health, kids etc.

Thanks for reading.

Top tier worse doctor and staff members, they do not help their patients and charge you for your own files and won’t even email you the information. The doctor always rushes you and never looks into your problem and always dismisses it.

Dr. Sunner has been my kids and I family doctor for a few years. Even before the pandemic, she has always been extremely rushed, impatient and a bit condescneding. She hardly listens to your concerns, preforms very hasty assessments and formulates assumptions so quickly...like please let your patients speak. It seems as if she does not respect patients as experts in their body and health. I've had to see her numerous times for the same concern, whereas I've seen walk in doctors who are more thorough in their approach to care. It's unfortunate because I've been with her a while but finding a compassionate, thorough and respectful health practitioner is more important to me. Which is why I'm writing this review...to WARN others. Reading others people experience solidified that she is NOT the doctor I want or would recommend.

I like Dr. Sunner. Her staff always help in getting the quickest appointments. Dr. Sunner has been good to me and has given me quick and timely referrals to specialists when needed. Yes she’s sometimes in a rush but most doctors are anyways
