Dr. Schultzel removed my cancer. He was very compassionate and knowledgeable and the surgery he did was relatively pain-free with very little scarring. He explained to me very clearly my options and the procedures and everything was done in accordance with the prior information given. I would and have highly recommended him for anyone needing GI surgeries.

Dr. Schultzel and his team are the absolute best at what they do and I couldn't be happier with the experience I had with them. You can tell right off the bat how incredibly well run his practice is and how thorough he is as a doctor / surgeon. He and his team lived up to all the glowing reviews I read about them before coming into his practice and I would highly recommend them to anyone. I ended up needing to have an umbilical hernia repair surgery and Dr. Schultzel did an amazing job from start to finish. It was the first surgery I had ever undergone and I could not be more thankful that he was my surgeon. While obviously nerve-racking to have to undergo surgery, you want to know that you are going to be in great hands and frankly Dr. Schultzel is the the one you want, bar none. He is a true professional and one of the nicest doctors you will ever come across.

Dr. Schultzel and his team provided me with expert care and engaging bed side manner when I approached him about my hernia. I've had a hernia for 4 or 5 years and it progressively grew to the point where my belly button was completely pushed out and was draining me emotionally, mentally and of course physically. I had seen 2 doctors in LA and they were no help and or tried to sell me a gastric bypass. Upon moving to San Diego in April, I found Dr Schutzel and the great reviews of his practice and outcome record. When I had my first appointment we discussed many different questions I had and there were solutions or starting points for everything. Upon looking at my hernia, he said, thats an incisional hernia, a large hernia. It probably won't be outpatient, but we can and should do it. He was adamant that I have a few tests done so they know what the status was before surgery. Turns out my colon and omentum was hanging outside my abdominal wall. Surgery day came and it was fast, pleasant and easy. I stayed overnight but was out by noon, making it a 24 hour visit. No only was my hernia repaired but he removed old scar tissue that was causing other issues. Dr was incredible post operation with 2 check ins and through care instructions. I was walking gingerly day 1, better day 2 &3, confidently day 4 and by week 6 I was fully cleared. Best experience and has changed many things for me. I recommend Dr. Schultzel to everyone! Amazing surgeon. Dr. Schultzel took out my colon cancer. I was amazed how fast I recovered with robotic surgery. Sharp hospital was great and I am really glad I chose them over Scripps. I would recommend Dr. Schultzel to anyone!

Dr. Schultzel is a life saver. He is one of the very few Dr. who took my wife's (age 33) case seriously enough to act fast . The sense of urgency of Dr. Schultzel is outstanding . The wait period of a cancer patient could seriously worsen the situation. On July 24th we got the biopsy report that my wife has colorectal cancer. Dr. Schultzel saw her the next day on July 25th and scheduled for surgery on Aug 3rd. He understood the importance of each cancer patient to have surgery asap . After the surgery I have reviewed the procedure of the surgery with 6 other Drs. from UCSD, UCLA and other oncologists in San Diego and everyone said that Dr. Schultzel did an outstanding surgery to my wife and left no trace or evidence of cancer in my wife's body. There may be 100s of colorectal surgeon in the market, but we are thankful enough to pick Dr. Schultzel for his attention to details for the best surgery outcome. Sometimes you have to leave certain things to the surgeon if the SURGEON YOU CAN TRUST. Thank you Dr. Schultzel and his dedicated team for curing my wife.

Dr. Schultzel's concern for my health has been his priority since my first visit/exam. He ordered labs & tests confirming his diagnoses but also addressed other concerns based on my history as a recovering alcoholic, making sure all my organs were healthy before scheduling a much-needed surgery to correct a very painful hernia. His scheduling nurse, Emily, provided me with many date choices, a complete package of what to expect with preparation and after-care instructions and provided excellent support from beginning to end. Amidst a pandemic, Dr. Schultzel and Scripps La Jolla allowed my surgery to take place with much-appreciated extreme safety protocol. His nursing and surgery team provided first-class care and I knew I was in good hands, especially due to positive staff comments about Dr. Schultzel's experience and skills. My recovery went well, I able to get back to the office within a week resumed normal activities in about 6 weeks. Highly Recommended!

Dr. Schultzel guided me through 2 surgeries with expertise, professionalism and a compassion that is often absent in the bedside manner of surgeons. He even took my call on a Sunday to put my mind at ease during recovery. In colorectal surgery, doctors have to "poke and prod" in areas that are normally very private and sensitive. Dr. Schultzel handled all of this quickly and professionally.. but also kindly. At appointments, I never felt rushed and my questions were always answered fully and without the sense one often gets when speaking with a doctor that the question is stupid or that the doctor has something more important to do just then. I am now fully recovered from both surgeries and I couldn't be happier with the results. My quality of life has dramatically improved as a result of Dr. Schultzel's fine work. I will recommend him without hesitation to friends, family and anyone else that needs a colorectal surgeon.
