If not for Dr. Dawdy I probably would not be writing this rating. I have been a patient for over 10 years. My first visit was from my family doctor. I had problems with shirtness of breath. Saw her on a wed. Received a call from Dr. Dawdys office on the Friday , same week. Had my first visit the following week with him. During my appointment he advised me that there was a problem with my heart and I would be hearing from him to go to the Heart Institute ASAP. Within a week I received a stint. It was the alertness of Dr Dawdy that allowed me to come back home to my family. Have been seeing him every year since then . Very up to date on my medical problem. Great doctor. On my visits he explains things to me and does follow up test’s at his office as well at the heart institute. I have the very upmost faith in Dr. John Dawdy.

Dr. Dawdi had reviewed all the history and test data, asked appropriate questions, expressed a thoughtful opinion and recommended a follow up personal visit at our mutual convenience, ten months in the future.

Initially listened to my concerns, and referred me for some testing, but was not able give me a diagnosis or any help for my debilitating chest pain/fatigue/fainting etc. Denied access to holter when symptoms worsened. Told me no cardiologist in Ottawa is able to diagnose my condition, I would have to go to Montreal, but he was unwilling to refer me to someone there. First virtual call was pleasant, but the second was rushed and I was not able to have all my concerns addressed. One reception staff very warm and helpful, one horridly rude and gave conflicting info to the first, slowing everything down.

Dr. Dawdy covered for an unavailable colleague in responding to diagnosing a complete heart block that was detected by my Holter Monitor. He arranged for my admission into the Ottawa Heart Institute for a pacemaker via the Civic Hospital ER. His critical action was timely and effective in giving me a new lease on life. Thank you very much, Dr Dawdy!

Seems like he doesn’t care when talking to you. His knowledge of how to treat afib is very outdated. Laughs when you make suggestions. Get yourself a cardiologist with some updated knowledge that actually seems like they care.

If John Dawdy had not picked up on a rare electrical problem with my heart, today I would not be wearing a pacemaker that lets me live my life to the fullest! I would be dead. Instead, I play my contact sports like a "tank". Not only is he very knowledgeable, he is a very kind and down to Earth man. No "God syndrome" here.

He has been nothing but kind to my mother, a patient for many years. Although she is a complicated case, he and his staff stay current on her condition and call her often to discuss her medications. When my mother of speaks about Dr. Dawdy, she always tells people how much she likes him. Thank you for always doing your best and taking such good care of my mother.

I HATE DR.DAWDY,in my opinion he is incompetent and cold. He was in Ottawa General Emerg. I had Atrtial fibrilation. He put me on high dosage 400 of Amiodarone, put me on Warfin and Beta Blockers.I begged him to let me stay in the hospital. He said very coldly he needed my bed. Pumped up on all this new medication I was sent home. Before I left he opened my curtain while I was dressing and said by the way these drugs have side effects. Nothing more. My after visits with him were nothing short of terriable. He said if I had any problems while at home to see my own GP. Why would he say that to me? I told him I was severly depressed,he said do you want to see physchiatrist. I did not need a physchiatrist. Told him my back hurt and I had a hard time breathing and was feeling sick all the time, he dismissed what I said. Showed him how the whites of my eyes had turned yellow and he made no comment, just nothing. I finally went to see DR. NIZNICK and he took me off those teriable meds.

I had leg edema, shortness of breath, low O2 saturation, regular chest pain, fatigue and 2 previous heart attacks. Dr. Dawdy told me my symptoms were due to my meds and that my heart was fine. When I told him that I had gone off all my meds for 3 months he had no further answer. He also stated that my previous 2 heart attacks were probably not really heart attacks!?!?! Two weeks later my respirologist ordered a heart test that showed a hole in my septal wall. Further testing showed right sided heart failure. If I had of listened to him and not sought another opinion....who knows where I'd be today.
