I suffered from debilitating Neurogenic Claudication for many years which prevented me from performing many common tasks which required standing longer than a few minutes at a time. (walking, shopping, cooking) . Dr. Nemani diagnosed my condition and 5 weeks ago performed a surgical procedure called a laminectomy. Today, my condition has completely vanished and I have successfully regained my independence due to this successful surgery. Dr. Nemani may rank as the best physician I have known, and I am lucky to have found him. He performed a complex multilevel spine surgery on me in early September. The hope was to prevent my condition worsening, but the results far exceeded expectations. I got back things that morphed the surgery from prevention to healing. Dr. Nemani and his team performed at a the highest level of competence. His staff highly respects him. Every interaction with Dr. Nemani and his team was confidence building. He explains things clearly, listens carefully, and answers questions thoroughly. He also looks at facts without the filter of his own ego, and he'll revise a recommendation if the situation warrants it. That was a big confidence builder. I highly recommend Dr. Newmani. This is to convey my respect and deep appreciation to Dr. Neumani, who performed a multi-level spinal fusion in the lumbar region of my back six months ago. Prior to this surgery, several falls and a lifetime of advancing stenosis had all but ended my ability to walk without pain and to engage in the outdoor physical activities that have always been an important part of my life, now spanning 80+ years. I was referred to Dr. Nemani by my primary care physician who made an extraordinary effort to help me locate the “best” surgeon. I was impressed with Dr. Nemani’s extensive medical education and training (including a Ph.D. in neurology) at the outset, the thoroughness and clarity of his assessment of my situation, and his patient, caring, and compassionate demeanor. Recovery of nerve and muscle function has progressed well since the surgery -- with pain free walking and exercising and the ability to navigate flights of stairs comfortably and safely. My highest kudos go to Dr. Nemani, his staff, and Virginia Mason as an institution.

When life became unbearable due to lower back pain in the fall of 2017 I researched multiple orthopaedic and neurosurgeons who ranged in solutions from doing nothing (which wasn’t an option for me anymore!) to doing multi-level fusions (which scared me to death!).

Then I came across Dr. Nemani. He thoroughly looked through all my records and considered the other surgeons’ suggestions, then approached me with a sensible solution (a conservative surgery) that my husband and I felt completely comfortable with.

When the final neurosurgeon I “interviewed” concurred with Dr. Nemani and told me if he had surgery he would have Dr. Nemani perform it, I immediately booked surgery with Dr. Nemani. What I especially appreciated was that he never promised a miracle, pie-in-the-sky cure, he gave me realistic expectations that have come to be.

My operation was complicated as it was a re-do of a prior surgery, and there was a lot of scar tissue in the way. Removing the scar tissue without piercing the lamina was a key to success, and Dr. Nemani’s exquisite skill showed up in his precision (he is a dual-trained orthopaedic and neurosurgeon trained at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City).

Not only is he a superbly talented surgeon, he has a great bedside manner – no big ego here! I always have felt listened to, my feelings and concerns heard and addressed. His staff is fantastic, very responsive and despite knowing I was being a pest at times, they never treated me as such!

I could not recommend more highly Dr. Venu Nemani. My life has quality again! I can live without debilitatin pain, walk without a cane and for several hours. Last weekend I meandered around a wetlands preserve for nearly 2 hours – unthinkable 6 months ago, when I was considering getting a scooter to be able to get out of the house, go to work and even get groceries.

Thank you Dr. Nemani, and your staff, for treating me with such compassion and caring, and for giving me back my life. Yes, as you said, I will never be 100% without issues and some degree of pain, but I believe I have recovered even beyond any expectation (mine, and yours!).

Hopefully I won’t be in need of any back related surgery or for a very looonnngggg time but I know without a doubt if I do, I won’t need to interview any other surgeons – Dr. Nemani will be the only surgeon to touch my back ever again. Please, do yourself a favor, and check him out – you will not be disappointed.

Dr. Nemani is outstanding in every respect. He was very prompt, personal, informative, professional and just plain outstanding. My operation for spinal stenosis(I am 83 years old) was very successful in every respect. I highly recommend him - I don't think you can do any better than him.

What a wonderful Dr.!! Knew what was wrong with me, as soon as he saw the MRI. I was in so much pain I could hardly walk, but after the surgery, I immediately had relief. I don't think it would be possible to choose a better surgeon than Dr. Venu Nemani. In addition to being extraordinarily credentialed, he is gracious, kind, and caring. He answered every question I had (and there were many) and thoroughly explained my x-rays, MRI, and CAT scan. He made sure I understood what would take place during my surgery (lumbar spinal fusion) and what to expect during recovery. He also explained the risks associated with this surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Nemani.

In Jan 2017, my husband rolled his truck and fractured his neck. He needed surgery to fuse C6/C7.

From the first interaction with Dr. Nemani AND his team, we knew we were in good hands. They were all friendly, professional, considerate of our time and quick to respond to calls/emails.

Dr. Nemani took the time to explain every step and detail of the surgery in layman's terms. He was genuinely caring throughout the entire process, went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable with every decision and best of all, my husband had very little pain after surgery.

Dr. Nemani always gave us his full attention and has an easy going bedside manner. He even strongly encouraged my husband to take care of an issue with his thumb. He took the time to write up an appointment referral to the practices’ on staff specialist. Good thing too because it ended up being an issue that needed immediate attention.

If we ever have a need for an orthopedic surgeon again there is no other doctor that we would consider.
