I am an active 74 year old woman and developed a bunion and hammertoe on my left foot about 7 years ago which progressively worsened over time. In 2019 I consulted 3 surgeons, including Dr Basile and after receiving a clinical evaluation and xrays, I was told my pain level did not justify surgery and that I should continue with conservative treatment.
Subsequently, my bunion and hammertoe pain worsened and I revisited Dr Basile in late August 2020 and I’m so glad I did. Dr Basile takes great pride in his work, is professional, allows more than ample time for you to ask all of your questions and is very personable. In September 2020, I had surgery which included 4 procedures (local anesthesia and IV sedation) on my left foot: bunionectomy, hammertoe fusion repair and 2 tenotomies (cutting of tendons). He discussed all surgical procedures in great detail including possible hardware, ie. 2 screws and 1 pin, along with the risks and benefits, complications. He also discussed my likely prognosis and actions I could take to improve the likelihood of a good outcome.
Post operatively, I was placed in an Air Cast Boot and did use a walker occasionally for 2 weeks. By post op week 2, I was out of my boot walking in my tennis shoes. I took oxycodone for 2 days and then ibuprofen occasionally for 3 days. My bunion incision looks amazing in that it is almost invisible. You can see my hammertoe incision but it is fading with time. I did have swelling but it consistently decreased over the past few months. Honestly this surgery and recovery were not as painful and difficult as I expected. I was out walking a mile after a month and my physical therapist and friends were incredulous.
In sum, I highly recommend Dr Basile for his surgical skills and the exceptional medical care I received at Mt Auburn Hospital. Dr Basile is kind, patient and certainly doesn’t push having surgery. He is someone you can rely on. Also his medical personnel and administrative staff were always helpful and professional.

I went to Dr. Basile for a second opinion regarding bunion surgery. My bunion was severe and the first surgeon I went to wanted me nonweightbearing for three months postoperatively. Since I still work full-time as a nurse practitioner this weight-bearing limitation wasn't optimal. Thankfully I found Dr. Basile. he has an excellent bedside manner, was much more thorough than the first podiatrist in explaining the difference in surgical techniques and how he would perform the procedure. I did not feel rushed and he took the time to answer all of my questions. I had a great experience at Mount Auburn Hospital in day surgery and have recovered without any complications. I was walking in an air cast boot the day following my procedure and by four weeks I was completely out of the aircast boot and back in a regular shoe. I had heard a lot of horror stories about how painful the procedure was, but I had no post operative pain and never needed to take narcotics following the surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Basile to anyone needing to see a podiatrist or have surgery on the foot and I will definitely return to have a bunion removed on my other foot.

I saw Dr Basile for a few years. He did a surgery to repair a torn tendon and ligament in my left ankle, and it went very well. Due to an inherited neuropathy, I had various issues with my feet. I started showing signs of Charcot foot. I had read reviews saying that Dr Basile became angry when questioned, etc, but I didn't believe them because it hadn't happened with me. Then when I questioned him on something, he became very defensive and kept returning to the topic after I thought we had finished our discussion! Our relationship went from him saying "we may have lost the battle (on one of my injuries) but we will win the war" to him saying "there's nothing more I can do for you. I recommend a second opinion". So I went to my Dad's foot doc and I am so glad I did. He put me in a CROW walker for my Charcot (never even suggested by Dr Basile) and eventually did a reconstruction that was successful. Dr Basile is definitely smart and good at what he does, but his attitude really needs adjustment. I would never send any of my friends to him.

My experience has not been great- I found that he changes his story and contradicts himself as problems arise and have heard this from others as well. I do think that some of the top reviews here and on Yelp are clearly solicited- some are replicas on different sites and the language used and phrasing suggest that. Some are for surgeries done many years ago or recently submitted by people no longer in the area. This is a red flag. He has an odd personality, sometimes patient but shows anger and gets irritable if questioned. My foot is still in the process of healing but I can’t recommend him.

Dr Basile performed surgery on my foot for a Grade III Osteoarthritis of my Big Toe Joint. The procedure was a Hemi titanium implant and 1st Metatarsal Osteotomy. Right after surgery, I was able to bear weight as tolerated with my foot in a rigid post-op shoe. I used crutches for the first 4 or 5 days. Within 2 1/2 weeks, I was walking in a normal athletic shoe and driving again. I feel very fortunate that my local podiatrist referred me to Dr Basile for his expertise in this type of surgery.

Dr. Basile "fixed" both my Achilles tendons. I am incredibly grateful for his knowledge, expertise (awesome), and, of course, his surgical skills. His talents gave me back my walking world. Thank you, Dr. Basile!!!
