Years ago a walk-in clinic doctor suggested that I get a pap smear as part of the routine check up. I froze as I never had one done and felt very uncomfortable and somewhat scared. I had no prior experience with an invasive gynecological exam although had seen a gynecologist for consultations once or twice since my puberty :)
Anyway, after few more suggestions I finally voiced the reason why I didn't want to get a pap smear. Luckily, Dr. Kriik was an excellent physician with a quick grasp on patient's issue, so she referred me to Dr. White.
I was nervous to say the least and totally unsure what to expect as I read that the procedure can be painful and cause discomfort for days.
When Dr. White walked in and introduced himself, the first thing I noticed was his professional and friendly demeanor.
He understood immediately that I was shy and uncomfortable so he asked some questions first and didn't rush at all. When everything was ready for the pap smear, I felt comfortable and at ease.
He has gentle and intelligent hands, so there was almost no pain and very little discomfort indeed.
When he stopped practicing at the CarePoint in Coquitlam, I didn't mind the long drive to West End, as the pap smears needed updates every few years or so and also I had suddenly developed some other issues that needed to be looked at.
Dr. White was just as helpful and caring throughout all the visits as he was the first time around.
His lovely assistant Josephine scheduled all our appointments and follow up visits and she too has been very helpful and caring.
Also worth mentioning that both the doctor and his staff treat their patients with respect, dignity and appreciation. So naturally, as a patient one reciprocates and feels gratitude and respect in return.
I said thank you Doctor White many times in person, but wanted to also aknowledge on here.
