I would not let this man operate on my christmas Ham 2 years ago he performed an Lamectomy on my back and screwed a screw 5mm into the a nerve in my back and put me in wheelchair for three months leaving me with nerve damage in my left leg and foot his bedside manner was one of indifference and would not communicate with me as he believed in my mind that I was going to sue him in my opinion choose wisely somewhere else.

I saw Dr Laherty in August 2021 after suffering from worsening Sciatic pain and sensation loss for about six weeks. I had to wait a month to see him and was referred to have an MRI and CT. Booked the follow up in another month and on seeing him at this appointment he explained the condition I was suffering, the likely cause and my treatment options. Option 3 was surgery to fuse L4 - S1 both anterior and posterior in a single surgery which I chose thinking I would want to do it once and once only. He booked me in on the spot for an opening in two weeks!
Well truth be told I had a less than favourable outcome as my L5 vertebrae was quite malformed and one screw actually slightly deformed the nerve canal actually worsening my problem. This resulted in two more surgeries to resolve, not ideal.
Dr Laherty was brilliant all the way through keeping me calm (as possible) and explaining exactly what was happening all the way along.
12 months on I have ZERO back pain other than regular aches and more stiffness than before. I am not restricted at all, and I cannot thank Dr Laherty and his professional team enough.
This profession and these surgeries are highly complex and come with more than the average risk but when things don't go to plan you need to have 100% confidence you have the right surgeon on the job, that is what you get with Dr Laherty.
If you read the negative reviews, they seem to be primarily people complaining that the Dr didn't tell them what they wanted to hear, this is the first trait I look for in a specialist.
No rubbish, real fact-based diagnoses explained in detail!

It's almost 4 years since Dr Laherty performed an emergency laminectomy on my cervical spine due to Staph. aureus infection. I had a recent consultation with him to discuss the possibility of follow up surgery to fuse and add stability. He was very honest and said it would decrease my quality of life and probably not help with my pain. He said my posture was very good and come back for a 12 month review. I know he loves performing this type of operation (he told me) so it was really refreshing change to hear him say no, not necessary. Most other specialists would have kept at the chance of another operation, especially when the patient enquiries.
I highly recommend Dr Laherty as a brilliant and caring neurosurgeon.

It's now 3 years since Dr Laherty performed a laminectomy on my cervical spine removing a staph infection. His follow up since the operation has been nothing short of excellent. I highly recommend him as a neurosurgeon .

We were early to our appointment Dr Laherty was running 45 minutes late. Only to be abused and harassed when trying to tell him about patient history then thrown out of his office. Horrendous experience.

It's 22 months since Dr Laherty successfully removed a very large staph abscess in my neck vertebrae. On my last visit in August this year he was contemplating a second operation to stabilise my cervical vertebrae however he showed me how it had fused naturally. I'm not due back for another 9 months which is fantastic news. Dr Laherty is a true professional, highly skilled as a neurosurgeon. I continue to improve daily from what was a very nasty infection and I can't thank Dr Laherty and his team enough.

Our appointment with dr Laherty was less than 4 minutes and then he left the room we were in . Our question s were relayed to him by his receptionist . He was rude , arrogant unhelpful , dismissive and disrespectful.he didn’t even examine my husband . He deemed it unnecessary to admit my husband to hospital. After our consultation with him , my husband was referred to another specialist . My husband was taken by ambulance to hospital where he remained for 10 days for treatment. Our very brief consultation with dr Laherty was a huge waste of our time and money. We were shocked by the way we were treated .

Without a doubt I would be in a wheelchair now if Richard Laherty had not selflessly given up his Sunday evening to rush in and operate on a large staph abscess in my neck vertebrae. This was a little over a year ago now and he continues to see me to monitor my progress. I can't speak more highly of Dr Laherty and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him as a neurosurgeon.

Extremely knowledgeable & helpful, knows his stuff & although was running 2 hrs late didn’t feel rushed. Have seen him four times now & every time is at least 30 mins late but I put this down to not rushing his patients or being on call. Although J saw him privately he performed my operation publicly
