I was a patient of Dr. Luis Quinonez and Dr. David Ross in 2009. I wa sin the hospital for 2 plus months. I was at the Mazankowski Heart Institute in Alberta. Unexpectantly, at the age of 26, I had 5 open heart surgeries in 2 months and I had a chronic infection, which is very rare for someone very young. Dr. Quinonez did a thoracotomy after they found the vessel in the heart while performing the surgery, was punctured, causing blood in my chest wall and cavity. Dr. Quinonez came in, performed the necessary surgical procedures and helped in many ways. His rapport was friendly, but not overly. He was very much a cardiac surgeon and even a little arrogant at times. But he was a very thorough and knowledgable and but I could tell his life work is always focused on Cardiology. I knew before he mentioned anything that he was married to a doctor as well in 2009. I think if they had children, life would be different. He is a very smart man but I could tell he wants to be known, respected for his position, work and his achievements. He always said he worked at the Mayo Clinic, sense of prestige, especially for men. I believe that one should be hard working but also try to remain humble...no matter how much they accomplish or achieve. Anything could happen to anyone at any time, I believe when you have faith in God, he is the one in control ultimately, not any doctor. I hope all doctors realize this one day. They are not higher than anyone and in the end, it is God that determines our life and what occurs. I wish every patient of Dr. Luis Quinonez the best; a safe recovery and protection always. Dr . Luis Quinonez, if you are reading this, one day, thank you for your conversations, her expertise, performing the necessary surgeries and helping in my recovery over 13-14 years ago. It was always appreciated. Thank you Dr. Quinonez. ~Shiney K. (Alberta, Canada)

Today is the four year anniversary of my friend, Susan's heart surgery. Without you, I wouldn't have Susan. Without you, the special needs teens and young adults that she works with wouldn't have Susan. Thank you. You are changing lives one heart at a time.

My son had a tricuspid valve replacement and later a Starnes procedure. My wife and I are academics, and for us, cardiology was a completely new field. Dr. Luis was unbelievably adept at explaining things exactly at the level that we were, starting off with simple terms but quickly picking up on what we learned through the course of our stay at Boston Childrens Hospital. We could haven't been happier with the care and attention he gave our family and our son. He is an exceptionally talented surgeon, and very thorough and patient with family members. We felt very informed about the decisions that we needed to make at each step of the process. I wish he had more free time. He comes in early and stays late.

My daughter had surgery just before her first birthday! We could not have asked for a better doctor. He was so kind and caring. He made it so easy to talk to him and to trust him. We had no doubt in our mind after talking to him that our daughter would be just fine...and two years later, we still thank him for saving our precious girl.

Last month, I underwent heart valve replacement sugery at the hand of Dr. Q. What struck my initially was just how down to earth he was during our first visit. Though very busy, he took the time to thoroughly answer all of my questions. He displayed genuine concern for me as a person, and did not view me or my situation from a purely clinical perspective. That said, he displayed great clinical skill (in addition to outstanding care). He is very meticulous in the work he does. When the bandage came off and I viewed the incision for the first time, I could not believe how clean a job he had done. No staples, no tape (both of which I had experienced last time from another Dr....this was my 3rd such surgery). It was very clean. Also, because my procedure was over the holidays, he even took the time to come in on New Year's Day (which fell on a weekend). I was very imprressed by that. This Dr. deserves full marks, both as a clinician and as a human being. Thank you, Dr. Q., for everything!

Dr. Quinonez performed a COA surgery for my 2.5y old son on Oct.24 2011 at Stollery Edmonton Children Hospital. Dr. Quinonez is a relatively young surgeon but very knowledgeable and helpful. His best manners are definitely his friendly and helpful approach and willingness to answer all your questions before and after surgery. He visited my son every day after surgery for our 8 days stay at the hospital including weekends to check how was he doing.
