I had an excellent experience with Stephanie Bourke. She went above and beyond in the circumstances and was very kind. Why has my previous review been deleted? Something very strange going on on this site .

I had the misfortune of meeting this horrible woman a few years ago. As many others have pointed out in other reviews this person is condescending, cold, lacks empathy but actually seemed to enjoy retraumatising me. She shouldn't be allow to practice or to speak to traumatised people.

Rude, did not listen , just prescribed unsuitable drugs for a cardiac patient proving that she had NOT read the referal letter from my doctor

I'm not sure who is writing these comments but they seem to be writing about a different person to the one I'm attending for the last few years. She's been a great support to me.
Ultimately we've to fix ourselves there ain't a pill for everything. It's dam hard I know.

After three visits this doctor had diagnosed me with " treatment resistant depression".

She single handily set my recovery back by a number of months.

Very little tact and no bedside manner at all.

I strongly recommend a different doctor.

My appointment with Stephaine Bourke was honestly the worst experience I've ever had with a medical professional.

It was a surreal experience where I felt like I was a new toy for her to play with. She tried multiple times to push the session in erratic directions with unprompted, highly invasive questions that, without a doubt, could have upset someone with different life experiences to my own.

She seemingly became bored with me after her questions elicited nothing but bewilderment, before telling me to leave as she had patients with "real problems" to see to.

I’m surprised to see negative reviews here. I feel like when I see Dr. Bourke she treats me and discusses my health with me in a way that we are figuring it out together instead of a one sided exchange. We pick things apart my issues and she feeds back to me alternatives to how I might be perceiving or thinking, which is something I really need. She offers more than just medication. Talk therapy - such as ADHD coaches and trauma specialists along with some books that I have found useful. I have been to two other psychiatrists before her who only offered medication, but I need to change my mindset and learn how to interrupt the loop in my head. She’s a straight shooter and challenges you when necessary. I think that can be hard for some people, but I find it refreshing compared with other experiences I’ve had in the past. She’s solution based and doesn’t treat me like a child.

Found Dr B to be v helpful. The most dangerous of all psychiatrists are those who convince patients to take high doses of harmful, personality altering psych drugs. They're the wolves in sheep's clothing, they can be as punctual and as *professional " as you like, but they will destroy your life with their 'in the box' rigid thinking around psych drugs . I see Dr Bourke as a positive in my life but unfortunately a previous psychiatrist who is better regarded, more "professional", so punctual and kind enough, did me untold damage with drugs and never delved into my thought processes at all - prescribe prescribe prescribe was the approach. what good is being nice about that? You can recover from unhelpful insulting comments but you don't recover easily, if at all, from toxic, harmful brain wasting drugs like Olanzapine, that cause serious weight gain, diabetes, cognitive decline, depression, memory problems... The list goes on. Give me a few harsh words, lateness and disorganisation ANY day over what drugs have done to me. But anyway I found Dr Bourke to be v helpful in challenging my thinking. The softly softly approach isn't always the best. And the heavy meds will give u more problems to deal with than u could ever have imagined.
