For anyone that has experienced mistreatment by this physician, I highly encourage you to file a formal complaint with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Albert.a. https://cpsa.ca/albertans/albertan-complaints/filing-a-complaint/.
Disciplinary action needs to be taken against this “physician” ( he does not deserve this title). I am also fully convinced Darren Nielsen or his family members are responsible for the few 5 star reviews he has. This “physician” is a disgrace to the medical community and a danger to Albertans.

This doctor does not care about medicine, his patients or practice. He did not help me at all, and made me wait from like 9 or 10 at night till like 2 or 3 in the morning to see me. He did nothing really except examine my chest and stomach, checked my heartbeat, and was very dismissive and apathetic to talk to. Definitely would try and ask if there are other doctors available to be seen if you go into emerg at this community hospital.

Took my 6 year old to ER. Poor kid has been traumatized by this very rude Doctor. It’s too sad that this Doctor is working under covenant health and ruining the whole image of this institution. He doesn’t even show any sign of compassion. My kid was so scared and now having hard time to go to hospital ever again.

Rudest most uncaring doctor I have ever encountered.
I had gone to emergency after having a complete hip replacement the previous morning and had been discharged from the Royal Alex that afternoon. I spiked a fever so went to the Miseracordia Hospital which was the closest hospital to me. He berated me for not going back to the Royal Alex. I was left in a room and ignored, had to get up and ask someone for a bedpan, was given no pain medication for hours even though I had major surgery the following day.
The whole experience was something I will never forget.
People should never be treated with such indignity and disrespect.

Ended up in the ER on two days and saw this dr both times. Fmthis dr has given me more information and done more for me in the last week than my dr has in the last 6months. Ok Inwas not seen right away, but it's emergency so that's expected. The nurses were annoyed he was taking forever and prewarbed me that he can be grumpy, but in my opinion, he was spot on. Came in, diagnosed me, gave me correct medication, followed up, got back to me and referred me on. He knows his stuff, and looked after me. As for the comments on here saying he's racist, as a black person, I did not get this vibe. Wheh i returned to the hospital for a few days later he greeted me and trwated me respectfully and was sorry that the surgeon didnt operate on me. I'm thankful I saw him and grateful for his expertise and follow up.

Nurses/Front end staff were amazing. But the doctor himself?? Holy moly, this guy is the worst doctor I have EVER dealt with. Incredibly entitled, like I should be grateful that he saw me, when it could’ve easily been any other doctor. I’ve only been to this emergency hospital twice and the first doctor Dr. Stephen Petryk, saw me for the same issue. I was injured at work and I was required to go and see the doctor for my employers to have a better understanding of what’s going on and what they should do next. Dr. Petryk was kind, quick, gentle like any good doctor or human being for that matter, should be. He was gentle with handling my injuries. He even asked for permission to take the robe off, lift up certain body parts and to even touch my injury.
But Dr. Darren Nielson, who seems to not have a care in the world for patients, just walks in the room “ok what do you need.”
“Ok.” “And?” “So?” “Don’t know what that is” “not my business” “can’t do anything about it”, this how he talks to people. To check my injuries he completely man handled me(a woman in her 20’s) and just rips off the ties for my robe, pushes me down and says “lay on your back” “put your legs up”. He proceeded to tell me to lift my legs up, he could see I was in pain and couldn’t keep them up for long or straight, instead of being gentle he decides to grab my leg, straighten it himself and goes beyond my range of motion, then bends my ankle and completely pulled on it despite me groaning and telling him I was in pain. Then he just left, gave me a note and told me to get braces and told me to leave.
I wish I knew what I was getting into and I’m honestly glad to see I wasn’t just imagining it, that I was dealing with an absolute d-bag.
He should retire. Should’ve never been allowed to be a doctor. I will be contacting the head of the hospital and covenant health myself.

Went to the emergency room with horrible QL pain and incontience. He looked at me and said what the heck does QL mean? I told him you’re the doctor you tell me. He said we don’t use abbreviations. Ummm yes you doctors always shorten words. I had to rip him a new one for him to actually smarten up and help me. Then he proceeded to show me a diagram in his phone because “he couldn’t explain it”. I’ve seen him over 10 years ago in the ER where he dropped a q tip on the floor and proceeded to pick it up and try to put it in my eye until my mom screamed.

How is this idiot allowed to practice after all these complaints??? Rude, condescending, incredibly judgmental, racist and callous! I’ve had 2 experiences with this very small, sorry excuse of a man … and both times I wanted to tell him he has no manners or etiquette! I had to hold my husband back from telling him off in front of his resident and nurses. I refrained because clearly I was raised better and clearly higher education has not bettered him as a human being. Darren Neilson is an embarrassment to medicine and to Misericordia hospital! He clearly has a Napoleon complex and needs to get his ego in check! This dr told me there was absolutely nothing wrong with me and practically called me an addict without even listening to me or reading my charts! Turns out I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune and both symptoms and tests results all pointed towards it! I broke down with another ER doctor and told him how Darren Neilson had treated me. I’m sure there was a note made because tonight dr Neilson happened to be on call at Misercordia ER and sure enough he punished me for that complaint by making me wait for hours in the room with chest pains! Only to finally tell me I can have the new tests done as an outpatient! He had my tests results hours prior but made me wait for this tiny piece of information while he chatted up the nurses! Even his resident looked embarrassed by him! I’m taking this up with the board of physicians and making this a formal complaint! I’m amazed Misericordia management has not taken these complaints seriously! This man is dangerous as in he could possibly push someone over the edge if they are already suffering and struggling with an unknown ailment! His words and judgment could cost someone their life! My wish for Darren is that he comes across a dr just like himself when he ever falls sick! Better yet I hope he messes up so bad that he loses his right to practice medicine! Karma is a mean bi*ch and shes coming for you Darren Neilson!

His bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired! He should not be in the field of caring for people when it is clear he does not at all care about his job, or his patients. The worst medical experience of my life dealing with this Dr. He is rude, non-responsive, does not update the patient at all, and seems utterly disinterested in the welfare of patients. This person should not be practicing medicine. He deserves a zero.

Dr. Neilson is by far the worst Emergency doctor i have ever been to in my life. I arrived by ambulance late at night after suffering a violent seizure. He was rude and arrogant and belittled me for not knowing the cause of the seizure and he refused to believe the ambulance staff or my husband that I even had anything wrong at all. He left me waiting in the hospital room with no tests or care then rudely sent me home right after shift change in the am with no explanation of aftercare or anything. He should have his license removed. the staff on shift said i should file a formal report against him as he is always like this.
