I saw Dr. Appiah, at her OSU practice on Taylor Road for a uterine biopsy. My experience was horrendous from start to finish. I am a survivor of childhood sexual assault, as such I usually bring a family member or close friend with me to appointments that require a pelvic exam. This was my first time meeting Dr Appiah, and once she was in the room she pressured me to have my support person leave the room. Now mind you, this was my second biopsy in a period of weeks. I thought I knew what to expect. I was wrong. After shooing my support person out of the room, she had a nurse come in to hold my hand. A nurse I'd also never met. So, I am on the table and she is starting when she decided she needed to dilate my cervix. It was extremely painful. She gets the instrument in and says she can't get past the 5 cm mark and that I may need to come back for sedation. I am in so much pain that this point that my legs are shaking and I am crying. That is when I had a flashback to being assaulted at age 5. Despite my obvious distress she decided to dilate me further. When I asked if everyone had that much pain, she was very nonchalant and said "Not really..." Then she starts cramming another instrument inside me and I am sobbing. The she proclaims that she has made it to the point where she needs to be and just needs to take the sample. Once she has the sample she holds it up for me to see. I am not sure if that was supposed to comfort me, but seeing a piece of your uterus in a cup is not comforting while you are laying there crying. Then after she has taken everything else out of me she asks if I want to sit up or if I need a moment. When I respond she leaves the room without another word really. I literally left the office in shock. I felt nauseated and was in so much pain. In fact, I threw up several times that night from the pain. Two days later I am still in a good deal of pain. I refuse however to go back to her practice.

Dr Appiah is wonderful! She's at Columbus nationwide children's hospital now. You CAN trust her with your daughter. She is patient and caring and will take the time to make sure you understand and are comfortable with procedures. If an unfortunate need for surgery arises, she will give hugs and be a reassuring strong support. I love that she gets to know the family and is personal and trustworthy. She's truly a special person to do this type of work with children.

I recently began seeing Dr. Appiah, after several disappointing with other doctors. My husband and I were looking for Gynecologist that could help us in our quest to have children. All of the other OBGYNs I met with referred us directly to a fertility specialist. One doctor did not even perform an exam. The previous doctors came across as indifferent to our concerns. After meeting with Dr. Appiah, I knew she was the one for us. During the consult she was thoughtful, patient, and provided us a detailed path to conception. Most recently, she contacted us on Sunday as a follow up to our most recent blood work. I appreciate her patience and genuine concern for our well being.

This doctor took three weeks to call me back with results after I had labs drawn for fertility/clomid consultation. Three weeks is definitlely long enough for ovulation to come and go, so this was completely exasperating and infuriating. She is a fertility specialist, time is of the essence and not responding to patients is negligent. This after I called the office multiple times, never getting through and always getting the same response from the receptionist "I'll send the message through." When she finally did call me back she was very impatient and rushed me off the phone, less than a 5 minute phone call and she sounded very annoyed with my questions. She just doesn't seem to care and does not take time for her patients.

Dr. Ayensu saw my daughter for her first gynecology visit which can be very scary for a 13 year old! She was great, my daughter felt very comfortable with her and loved her! So now when we go for her appointment she always asks if she will be seeing Dr. Coker! She knew exactly what to do for my daughter I would recommend her to any mother that has a child who is having any female issues.
