Dr H becalmed my doctor when I moved to Sherwood park. In the beginning he seemed caring thou was perpetually late on appointments even if you had the first appointment of the morning. He was late arriving to the office. While I have remained with him for 16+ years it has not been always easy. However. I was not an ill person and typically just needed a prescription renewal, some blood work and I was on my way. More recently there have been a few issues requiring attention and while quick to throw tests at me. Not so quick to offer treatments etc.
I guess now that he is leaving it really doesn’t matter. However finding a new family doctor is proving most difficult. De hayfields last comment to me on that was. Well. There are medicentre. Yes. Yes indeed there are. And I hope to find a doctor in one that truly cares about the oath they took.

Dr. H. Became my Dr. When the one I had retired & he took her place. He was my family’s physician for 20 years; everybody loved him & was thankful to have him as their Dr. His staff always was friendly & eager to help; lately his nurse served us exceptionally with phone requests for requisitions & getting back to us with advice.
The disappointing aspects are: started out with partners & a lovely clinic atmosphere that was downgraded to the point of him being the only physician with a location in the back of a Rexall pharmacy. Phones weren’t answered as often & slowly his hours became worse. Instead of 5 days a week he now worked 4, instead of a full day it was 7-1 pm. It was obvious he was looking more tired, & his once easy going manner turned into one far more rushed. When I knew things had really changed was when he interrupted me during a secondary concern stating he only had time for 1 ‘problem’ at a time. That really shocked me.
Now this week we received a letter notifying us his practice was closing after 20 years, effective May 15. I’m beyond disappointed that we’re getting a 2 month notice (I read here that he ONLY gave a weeks notice when he left Saskatchewan). We’re at an age that having a family Dr. is more important than ever, and despite healthlink & the College of physicians giving names of Dr’s taking patients, everyone called said they weren’t. So we’re relegated to Medicentres. Yeah. Had he kept partners maybe our care could have been moved to them, like the way I got him as my physician. I’m bothered that there’s no mention in the letter why he’s leaving - retiring? Or leaving to practice elsewhere? Deciding to only work at his sideline skin clinic? I believe he should show respect to his clients & at least inform us of that.
I feel grateful to have had Dr. H. care for us so well these past 20 years, and I’m not beyond wishing him well going forward.. but there was no way I wasn’t going to speak out here, as I will be doing in person to him. I stress again SO VERY DISAPPOINTING :

Forgetful and always away from the office. Lousy diagnostician. Lazy overall. Bubbly personality doesn't make up for his lack of knowledge.

No longer very pleasant to deal with. At times appears rushed and agitated. You never know who's going to show up at from one appointment to the next, friend or mild bully. Consequently, my trust has been eroded in recent years.

I have been seeing Dr Hatfield for years along with my children who are now grown and I have never had any issues with him. I find him kind, attentive, empathetic, and knowledgeable. His understanding of the mental health aspects in our lives, especially during COVID-19 , is refreshing. No matter how many people in the waiting room I have never felt rushed to leave nor had any concerns about my health. His staff are kind, patient, and friendly. I’m extremely grateful that he is my GP, and if he was taking more patents, I would highly recommend him. In all the all the years I’ve seen him he has never pushed his other practice which involves skin care. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Hatfield is the best family physician that has ever treated me. He is always very friendly, professional, and personable. I can tell he really does care about his patients and takes the time to truly listen. Sometimes you have to wait 15-20 minutes past your appointment time to see him, but this is because Dr. Hatfield always puts the well-being of his patient's first. You will never feel like he is rushing you out the door just because he is running a bit behind and wants to see the next patient. It is tough to find a family physician like this in today's day and age. I wouldn't go anywhere else and highly recommend Dr. Hatfield to anyone

Dr Hatfield was great and also very disappointed that he has left us. I never got a notice that he was leaving until I went to book my yearly medical.
How do I get my medical records etc..... It's so hard to find a new Dr.
