Dr. Heather Underwood changed my life. In one word: she asked, “How young are you?” (I am 72.) In a culture obsessed with age, this small shift in perception left me — immediately healed! Well, I exaggerate. But to listen to her, and be listened to: what an immense privilege. You know you are in the hands of someone caring, wise, and extremely knowledgeable. I am so extremely thankful.

No Dr. In the province of BC understands the Musculoskeletal system, (especially in regards to hypermobility and connective tissue diseases) like Dr. Underwood. She is exacting in her assessments, and having an in person appointment is mind blowing. She’s empathetic, supportive and invested. It will take time to see her, but well worth the wait.

She used to have this completely incompetent admin, but perhaps she is gone because someone else is there. In any case, Dr. Underwood quite possibly has turned my life around for the better! I wish she could be my GP! She is so amazing. When my American medical twin, who has the same name as I do, told me to get a physiatrist who specialises in Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, I Googled such a person and came up with Dr. Underwood. I insisted that my pain doctor at St. Paul's and/or my Nurse Practitioner (who is my GP) refer me to her, which they did. It was an 8-month waiting list, but it was definitely worth the wait! Dr. Underwood not only knows a lot about the body and pain, but she gets things done! It's not uncommon for her to call me at 6 or 7 in the evening to check on something, just so she can put in a difficult-to-get referral. And she will get that referral put through, even when my GP cannot get it done! I am so amazed at her tenacity. I am very grateful at the lengths she will go through to get me the level of care that I desperately have needed for the last three years when my body has been deteriorating. I am in my mid-40s, yet my body feels like it's in its 80s. Thanks to Dr. Underwood, I'm starting to feel like a 40-year-old again!
