My sister went in to the ER transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital IN ATHENS, Ga. She was hemorrhaging severely and was throwing up copious amounts of blood. My sister was inching towards death and upon entering the ER the exact cause of this hemorrhage was unknown. Dr Katz happened to be in the ER and was immediately requested to assist with the diagnosis and treatment of this patient (my sister). Upon scoping MITZI (sister) Dr Katz quickly located a very large gastrointestinal hemorrhage. MITZI was bleeding out. She needed immediate emergency surgery if she was to live. STAT! Her blood loss was now catastrophic. MITZI coded on the table. DEAD. Dr Katz and other medical personnel worked feverishly to save her life, and brought her back. Life number two, not a second chance at life. Stable. As fast as MITZI was given blood, she hemorrhaged it out. She was stabilized. The gastrointestinal hemorrhage though had not slowed down. Blood continued to be pumped into my sister. Dr Katz immediately performed surgery. Mitzi was incised from sternum to pubic bone. Dr Katz searched and located the ruptured artery in her stomach and with masterful hands repaired it. Blood was continued to be transfused into her body. Then MITZI coded for the second time. LIFELESS AGAIN. Dr Katz and medical personnel worked and worked on my sister. No joy. No life. They worked on. One minute. Two minutes. Paddles. Injections. One minute during CPR is a lifetime. Two minutes Double lifetimes. Ok they worked. There comes a time when talk gently turns to calling the code. Dr Katz didn’t want to hear that. This was his patient. Though he didn’t know my sister, he stayed true to his oath as a medical doctor. Dr Katz loved and willed his patient to get better. To live life.
LUCAS MACHINE was instituted into the code. On Dr Katz worked. And then the miracle. My sister came to life for the third time. She had a heart beat. Dr Katz, Medical Personnel, and St Mary’s Hospital performed the miracle of life. They persisted. They worked. They loved my sister back to life. They were PROFESSIONALS. A person hears that GOD works or is seen through the acts of others. If I had ever doubted, I doubt no more. Dr Katz (and others) are to be highly commended. I have much more to say, though not here. Not now. If you want a surgeon, Dr Katz is your man. If you want professional medical personnel and a hospital, St Mary’s is the place. As for MITZI?? I talked to her today. She is at home recovering. I love my sister. Thank you for listening.

I had never met Dr. Katz before seeing him at St. Mary's ER for an unexpected appendectomy. I was very impressed with his professionalism and courtesy. He was very good to answer questions. He talked to my family after the surgery and they appreciated his explanation and time. The surgery went very well and the recovery great and uneventful. I would highly recommend him and not hesitate to recommend him to my family and friends! Thank you Dr. Katz!

Took my gallbladder out. Very professional and courteous. On time on day of surgery and made sure I was comfortable. Afterwards, with no insurance, worked out a great payment plan that I could afford to pay.
