The Doctor:
Dr. Zahir is a great doctor, knowledgable, and friendly. However, he is efficient, and not in a good way. He will tell you what is going on and will explain thoroughly but once that is finished, he will lead you to the door. He works very quickly and almost to a point where you feel like asking questions makes him impatient. He didn't ask if I have any follow up questions or if there was anything else I needed.

Staff:
The younger nurse and the lab techs are great. The receptionists... are a whole another story. It's a pandemic and twice have I been in their office and 1/2 of the receptionists do not wear a mask. The other receptionist wears the mask in a way that doesn't cover her nose. Seriously, how can a health facility not require their employees to wear masks correctly let alone at all? When I called to make an annual appointment they also failed to let me know that I was getting bloodwork done AND that I needed to fast. I came in and the doctor expected me to have fasted, which I did not, and he apologized that his staff did not inform me. That is okay, everyone makes mistakes. The doctor also told me that since I had eaten, I would have to come back later that week to get blood work done AGAIN. I go to lab tech and I tell them that I did not fast and they said that because my doctor did not tell them, they STILL have to do the test. I, unfortunately, got charged for this second round of blood work because of the staff's mistake to tell me I had to fast. The worst part is that when my results for both fasted and non-fasted test results came in and showed similar results, Dr. Zahir told me that fasting didn't really matter. I do not recommend Prosperity Internal Medicine.

I saw Dr. Zahir for a few years. Generally I liked him and thought him pretty good, though often a bit too peripatetic if not outright ADD during the visits. I don't ask or expect much from primary care physicians, and even was willing to overlook his prescribing the wrong dosage for a medication because he failed to read the relevant research for its use in my condition which I provided for him.

However, over the past year and a half, the office started trying to force me to come in for routine refills on medication I've been taking stably for decades. There is no medical reason for me to come in and I never had to come in for refills of the same meds with previous primary care physicians (or with him until recently.) Dr. Zahir knows that not only do I have a physical with him every year, but have an extremely comprehensive physical from the fire department annually as well. The only conceivable reason he wants me to come in 4 times a year now to write my refills is $$s.

This month was the last straw. The office refused to refill a prescription once again unless I came in and additionally refused my request that he recommend a specialist. Again they wanted to force me to come in. However my insurance does not require referrals for specialists so would likely deny the claim if I went in for that.

I tried to explain this via email but they ignored numerous messages. It was only after I told them I was done and going to get a new primary care physician did they bother to respond. And still they made no apology. Because of their delay I may not be able to get the procedure I need from the specialist before my deductible goes back to zero next month. So their greed may cost me a thousand dollars.

I cannot state strongly enough that my statement that there is no medical reason for me to come in is factual and not opinion. I myself am a medical professional and my wife is a physician, and she agrees that the there is no medical justification for me coming in for this. Others have concurred. The only reason is to bill my insurance (or me.)

I have no complaints about Dr. Zahir. He's friendly and tries to explain things so I understand whats going on. The staff tho--they are rude and surly. I can overlook the monotone 'I don't give a crap' sound of their voice. But when I arrive a bit early for an appointment at 12:45 (~15 min early--the parking there is horrendous so I give extra time to find a spot)they give me the evil eye and ignore me for a few minutes. That's fine, I'm aware they have lunch break 12-1. I sign in and take a seat. Finally one of the girls in a catty tone that I DON'T care for: "you DO KNOW that we're closed right now right???" I try to be nice and tell her I'm aware, I'm just here early and am fine sitting in the waiting area abit. What a b- ...witch. I wasn't demanding attention, no need to cop an attitude. I also hate that when I call for an appt, I can only assume they're busy but rather than being put on hold its the quick "pick-up-and-hang-up-immediately" act. This has happened more than once.

LORRAINE is the office manager and is completely rude. She was confused and gave me incorrect information about Virginia Laws. She asked me if I still wanted to see the doctor and when i said yes, she told me Dr. Zahir left. His front staff was nice. Office Managers should never make sick patients cry when they leave.

I have been seeing Dr. Zahir for almost 4 years. LOVE him! He's helpful and really listens to my concerns. He always makes an effort to remember you and not treat you like a chart.
