My daughter saw this physician after being diagnosed with a nocturnal seizure disorder at age 19. He and 8 other neurologists failed to educate her about SUDEP. He also failed to ask questions which should have concerned him and prompted him to tell her that, at the very least, she should either have had a roommate, seizure alert dog, or someone close by so that if she had a seizure, someone could have heard her and been able to provide aid if needed. Deliberately withholding SUDEP education from someone who, because of her age and the fact that no one in her age group thinks they can die, is incredibly irresponsible and demonstrates a complete lack of concern for that person’s LIFE!!!! He should have told her what she needed to know so that she could have been monitored. but he did not care about her then, in 2006, and had no sympathy for the fact that she had died in .2013! I know this because I asked him in 2023 to email my Senator in VA in support of mandatory SUDEP education in VA which would not even affected him(!) and he refused, offered no condolences, and had his office manager tell me it was my own daughter’s fault that she died!!!! She was 27!!! She skipped her Keppra at times because it made her sleepy. My daughter was an avid (MVP) soccer player who was always playing on more than one team at one time. I know this is why she was sometimes skipping doses. SHE DID NOT HAVE A DEATH WISH AND HAD SHE BEEN WARNED ABOUT SUDEP, SHE WOULD NEVER, EVER HAVE RISKED HER LIFE BY DOING THIS!!!!!! NO COMMON SENSE WAS USED IN HER CARE!!!! SHE-ALSO HAD AN ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO KNOW ABOUT SUDEP AS SHE WAS AT HIGH RISK FROM HER FIRST SEIZURE!!! This man should not be treating patients with epilepsy because he made it clear to me that he still does not support education IN SPITE of the fact that medical (Cochrane) guidelines made this recommendation in 2017!!! A brilliant young woman planning to attend law school died became of the worst imaginable “care” by neurologists!
