Dr Susan Hughes took me on as a challenge and took a chance on me. She had compassion on my condition and my long evasive search for a cure or relief. I with my family support refused to give up and so did Dr Hughes.

The quality of my life and functionality has drastically improved post-surgery. I had eye surgery November 20, 2015 at the Virtua Hospital, Cherry Hill NJ. Dr Susan Hughes was the operating surgeon. I now have 75% more functionality compared to pre surgery. She gave me my life back. This is very significant considering the long difficult consultative journey I have gone through for over 5 years, searching for a cure or even relief. Very significant for anyone walking and functionally blind. Imagine that. I now can hope again to live life to the fullest. I did not just get a surgical brow lift, I got a life lift. I can now drive short distances (freedom- means so much more when one lost it) and live more of my life‘s purpose – life with Joy.

Before the eyelid surgery I had perfect vision yet I was functionally blind. An oxymoron. An irony but true because I could not naturally like others open my eyelids. I had been diagnosed with Blepharospasm (BEB), apraxia of the eyelids with a touch of Meige disease and lived with this for over 5 year’s .The only thing that helps most BEB patients is Botox injections every 3 months on the eyelids and forehead to weaken the muscles that open the eyelids. Even doubling the Botox injection units to approx. 230 units had little or no effect on my unique condition. I had been doctors across the Country from the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, Wills Eye Institute, and New York Eye Infirmary to mention a few and many other specialists. I even got myself fitted with special Scleral lenses on the recommendations by a specialist at the Mayo Clinic, but it was to no avail.

Dr Hughes was recommended by a former BEB patient Margaret Keogh who attends the Blepharospasm support group meetings. We also saw on recommendation two eye surgeons at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye institute. After meeting all 3 surgeons we believe we made the right decision in selecting Dr Susan Hughes.

Dr Hughes read my patient history summary that I provided, which most doctors do not do in advance of the consultation. We were impressed not just by Dr Hughes professional credentials. After our first consultative meeting with her and her staff we found that they both focused on patient centered care. They did so without watching the clock and the time they spent. We recognize time is money. We observed that she is a good teacher with terrific diagnostics skills and a good mentor to her staff as well.

Dr Hughes went beyond the call of duty when she called me directly. To my pleasant surprise, she confirmed having set up appointments dates with both a movement disorder specialist to look at my neck and shoulder muscles and the hospital for eyelid surgery. She spent a lot of time doing her observation and diagnosis. She also came to the conclusion that I would benefit with a surgical intervention to get some quality of my life back. Pictures of the eyes were taken and Field vision test done. She said what cannot be done neurologically let’s try and fix surgically. She gave me the confidence that she could fix what medications and multiple rounds of Botox injections could not. She wrote to the Insurance Company justifying the quality of life and medical necessity of the procedure she recommended. She performed a procedure for the upper eyelids called Bilateral Blepharoplasty with levator tuck and a brow ptosis repair. Her staff knew exactly what medical codes to use for the medical insurance purposes. This medical code expertize also distinguishes her practice from other treating physicians. I can unequivocally state that the procedure results were worth more than what the insurance company reimbursed Dr Hughes through the hospital. I got my vision back and my life back. That’s is priceless.

The post-surgery follow up by her and her staff were excellent. She handled a setback when stiches were removed with great skill. Her knowledge and experience showed up. After the surgery and follow up she said we are not finished with you yet. She originally wanted to do the lower eyelids as well which could not be done at the time of the first surgical intervention. She has now recommended me to see a specialist to deal with my drooping neck muscles. She has an artistic side to her for symmetry besides achieving functionality of the surgical procedure. She is a perfectionist, a true professional, passionate and knowledgeable about what she does. She has been God’s gift to us.

It is difficult to duplicate Dr Susan Hughes skills sets .My wish for every Blepharospasm patient who is a candidate for surgery finds a surgeon with her expertise, skills sets, compassion and professionalism and who like her puts their patient first.

What a wonderful experience! I have been wanting to treat my hollow lower eyelids for years now, but was a little apprehensive. After researching skilled, qualified surgeons in my area, I decided to schedule an appointment with Dr. Hughes. That was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time! The procedure itself only took a few minutes, and was virtually painless. I noticed the difference immediately. The dark circles under my eyes were almost completely imperceptible! I was amazed by the results! I look refreshed and well-rested now, instead of tired and haggard. I could not ask for a better experience. I received excellent care from Dr. Hughes and her nurse, Kate. I am so happy with my results that I plan on returning to Dr. Hughes in the future for additional procedures. If anyone is looking for an extremely skilled cosmetic surgeon, then I highly recommend Dr. Hughes. In my opinion, she is the best!

Dr Hughes gave me my life back. After leading a very active lifestyle during my early 30's I got an office job that left me sedentary 8 hours a day. The dramatic difference in my activity shocked my body into gaining 40 lbs. I no longer felt that I knew the person in the mirror. I came to grips with the dramatic weight loss and tried to work harder at the gym. Last year I went to the Hughes Center for laser hair removal, while there I learned about liposuction and body sculpting. I never thought I could afford a surgery like that but quickly learned I could finance, making it very feasible. I received 3 treatments last year. I have gone from a size 12 to a size 6/8. I couldn't believe the abs that were hiding under layers of fat. It has truly changed my life, I no longer hide from cameras or mirrors. My sex drive is back which has rejuvenated my marriage. I am the happiest I have been my entire life. Dr Hughes and her staff were so kind to me and I feel forever grateful! Thank You!

I found her weird arrogant, and incompetent. Her consult consisted mostly of her trying to push products and procedures. When I didn't buy them she pushed me off on a tech for laser treatments and I never saw her again. The treatments were totally ineffective.
