I had the misfortune of meeting Dr. Franke at a very low point in my life. Sadly, most who meet this individual who calls himself a "man" are likely to be at rock bottom when they meet him. Most people don't meet an addiction "specialist" unless they are facing legal consequences or have simply had it -- they no longer control their own lives and need help digging out of this situation.

When I met this man, I had committed myself to a local facility at which he practices. I did so because I was of the understanding that I could not seek ambulatory care without first receiving inpatient care. The day we met, Dr. Franke told me that I was the first person he had ever met who checked in to a facility when what they were actually seeking was ambulatory care. He proceeded to tell me that I was free to go since I had gone there of my own volition: all I needed to do was to say the word and he would sign my release. However, when I said the word -- when I informed the nurse that I wanted to leave, she refused to allow me to leave, stating that "the doctor" had put me on a 24 hour hold. When I asked for what the hold was put in place, she had no answer for me. She refused to let me speak to the doctor again so that I could ask him myself. She said that she would text him, but she never provided any further information. I was then held against my will. I was completely helpless. I was a prisoner. Should he not have said something to the effect of, "Since you came in of your own volition, I WILL release you, but not until you remain another 24 hours"? At least THAT way I might have asked questions -- most importantly: WHY?????

Additionally, this "doctor" removed me from a medication that my personal psychiatrist had placed me on nearly a decade prior. I was doing well on this medication, but Dr. Franke doesn't like it (for many reasons that he vomited out at me as if he had memorized the PDR.) But, like it or not, it is NOT a medication that is recommended one stop cold turkey. I even informed him that I had once forgotten to take it and had become very ill in doing so -- not taking this medication actually causes a withdrawal-like reaction to my system.

So, there I was, completely at their mercy with NO EXPLANATION whatsoever.

This man is insane. He makes decisions regarding others who are in need of a great deal of care without considering what is in THEIR best interest. He was smug, pompous and a disgrace to the medical community who actually CARES about individuals who find themselves in such a predicament. Don't let his photographic memory fool you. He doesn't care. Not about his patients anyhow. Do NOT seek help from this physician. He should have his license revoked.

He's a very realistic doctor. He doesn't sugar coat anything & he's out to really help you, not impede your recovery. I thank God for the treatment I received from Dr. Franke at AR. I've been sober 2 years now

Total jerk. The first time I saw him he didn't seem so bad but when I went back in because some symptoms were getting worse - he brushed me off and essentially told me I was imagining it. I've seen several doctors over the past few years and never encountered one I disliked as much as him. Not a doctor I will EVER see again.
