usually don't leave reviews anywhere but what Dr. Ruiz de Castilla just did is unacceptable. I came to his office about a month ago because my permanent retainer (metal wire) on the bottom of my teeth came off on one side. He re-attached that side with cement and charged me $80. Well, 2 weeks after that, ALL the cement he placed came off WITH a part of my wire. I called the office and they told me to come in, no one mentioned that he would charge me AGAIN at any point during the visit. He looks at it and decides to cut another piece of my wire so the wire ends on top of my tooth instead of in between my teeth. There was NO cement involved, nothing, just cutting a piece of the wire that took literally less than 1 minute and for that Dr. Ruiz de Castilla charged me $120. By the way, he was doing this to correct the fact the cement he placed and charged me for only 2 weeks earlier didn't work. Isn't there some type of guarantee to the work a dentist does? I feel Dr. Ruiz de Castilla took complete advantage of the situation since dentists have been closed for the past 2 months due to coronavirus and he is probably looking where he can rip-off people. The receptionist even went to talk to him about it because Im sure even she thought this was ridiculous. I have been a loyal patient for some time now and after this I can guarantee that I will never come back to his office again.

This review is based on the experiences of two people (my wife and I) over the course of a decade for me and about 5 years for her (I mistakenly convinced her to switch from her prior periodontist). Now, two years after our last visits to the office of Ruiz (who I refuse to call a "Dr."), we've both finally gotten resolved all of our dental issues that went mostly un-diagnosed, untreated, and worsened while under Ruiz's "care" (for lack of better term). Over the course of those two years, between my wife and I, we've now dealt with a half dozen offices of various types of dental specialists (all referred to by the real periodontist we now use). The conclusions we've now drawn about the years and money we wasted at Ruiz's office are based on: [1] comparisons to our experiences at those half dozen other offices [2] comparisons of our overall oral health following the care of a real periodontist, versus Ruiz (despite the fact that we're a decade older). First, I'll offer the good news. The hygienist at Ruiz's office, Suzanne, was by far the best hygienist out of the half dozen or so we have encountered over the years. She is not only better than any other hygienist we've been to at the technical aspects of the job, but she also genuinely cares about patients. My wife and I also agree that the same was clearly true of all other staff at this office. In fact, so much so that we actually wish we could switch all of the average staff at the various dental offices we use now with all the above-average staff from this office ... except the individual who masquerades as a doctor. In fact, the hygienist and office staff are the only reasons this review doesn't start with negative 5 stars.

Now, I'll recount a small portion of the bad news for those making the mistake of getting "treatment" from Ruiz. Because I mistakenly convinced myself that we were being too critical, my wife and I initially dismissed several issues over the years (i.e. increasingly shaky hands by someone holding sharp objects in your mouth isn't exactly comforting). However, we eventually agreed that we should seek periodontal care elsewhere. In the process of finding our current periodontist, we both saw two other periodontists and the reactions of both were identical ... visible shock and disbelief that either of us had been under the care of any periodontist at all in the years we had been going to Ruiz. I won't recount details of our personal health information here, but we were both informed of multiple severe periodontal issues that Ruiz never even diagnosed, let alone treated. That is despite the fact that we both diligently followed every direction and recommendation made by Ruiz, who was consistently so dismissive of our issues that we both concluded we must be overreacting to the things we're experiencing since he obviously must know more about dentistry than us. In fact, Ruiz's go-to "treatment" was to load us up with high-octane antibiotics and convince us that the things we were experiencing were "normal." By the way, that's after $10k "laser surgery" we later found out from real periodontists basically amounts to an expensive cleaning that's supposed to be accompanied by restorative treatments (not to replace those treatments ... unless, of course, the goal is to bill the highest amount, not treat the patient). I could go on for pages about the many ways in which the care from Ruiz is the worst we ever experienced from any so-called medical professional, but it makes me angry to even think about it, which is part of why I didn't write a review until now. The bottom line is that the diagnoses and treatment recommendations from Ruiz were nowhere near standard of care, and we've now spent years and many tens of thousands of dollars each to repair all the damage caused by years of sub-par care. You have been warned, so put your health in his shaky hands at your own risk.

Great periodontist! Took his time to explain the diagnosis and treatment plan and several different options!! I decided for the laser treatment. I had very little pain. Some of my teeth were lose. They aren't any more! His hygienist is the best!
