Dr. Balanger was so rude to my 90 year-old mother and me, spending about five minutes with us after being late a half-hour. My mother's doctor had recommended that she see the surgeon, who had done her back surgery years ago, since she is in pain from her back to her leg. Balanger said immediately that he was a surgeon and wasn't going to do surgery on my mom. We agreed with him and asked if anything else could be done. He repeatedly said he was a surgeon, and that my mom would have to see another person at the pain clinic for help. I asked to see the MRI pictures. He showed me two of them but didn't give any explanation as to what I was seeing. He gave the impression that he had more important things to do that talk to us. All he said to my mother was that her back was so badly aged. He knew before he came into the room that he wasn't going to do surgery on her back. Therefore, he could have saved us the two hour trip to Bismarck on a freezing cold day by calling us to tell us not to bother keeping the appointment. He had the MRI results for two weeks prior to the appointment. No patient should have to put up with such rudeness, especially someone who is elderly in much pain.

This guy was rude and spent less than ONE minute in the room with me. He said my spinal cord was not compressed enough to worry about YET. Nothing about what I can expect down the road or how this may progress. When I asked any questions he treated me like a stupid child. No answers, No help.

I had my L4 and L5 fused together by Dr. Belanger. I had previously had my neck fused by him with no problems. So I felt safe to go with him on my back. From day one I had problems with my surgery. I was told over and over that it would get better with time. That wasn't the case. I tried to get help from Dr. Belanger with no avail. It seemed that after he found out my surgery went bad he didn't want to have anything to do with me. I had my two month appointment with him and all he talked about was that even though a person has back surgery doesn't make him disabled and that no matter what he would not allow a person to take advantage of the insurance company. He didn't even check to see what problems I was having at the time. He didn't start me on PT until 3 months after surgery. I was told to go home and act like a 75 year old man. Every doctor I have been to has stated that he did me no favors by waiting that long. It has been well over a year and I'm still suffering from my surgery. Dr. Belanger didn't even attempt to try and find me some relief. I ended up going to other Neurosurgeons to try and help guide me.

Dr. Belanger is my hero. When no other surgeon would help, he did. I was close to incapacitated and very discouraged. He told me, after 3 yrs. of suffering , he could give me 'My Life Back'. That was 16 years ago in Ottawa Canada. Everything he told me was the truth... Yes, I would have minor deficits on my left side. The surgery should be 'good for 15 years'... You will be able to function well and relatively pain free, he said. I returned to Pediatric Nursing and kept my horse farm. There is not a day that goes by in my life without thanking this wonderful man for what he did for me. The only thing he was wrong about.....I am 16 yrs. post surgery and still going strong...!
I need to mention, I am 67 yrs. old now.... retired from Nursing but have a part time job in our community and still have horses. God Bless you Eric Belanger, you did give me my life back and I am so grateful!

Recently I had 4 vertebrae repaired in my neck. Dr Eric Belanger was wonderful in taking the time to review my x-rays and explain the surgical process and what I should expect. His entire staff was 100% first rate. When I awoke from my surgery I noticed immediately that ALL of my arm, neck and back pain was GONE! It has been 16 days since my surgery and I am feeling stronger every day. I would tell anyone that is having spine etc. problems to contact Dr. Eric Belanger he an his team are ROCK STARS!!!

The pain from crushing a disk in my neck was excruciating. All my future dreams evaporated. Dr. Belanger restored my hope, and in a couple of weeks replaced the disk tunneling from the front of my neck. The day after surgery, I attended my child's Christmas concert at school! That was four years ago - there have been ZERO problems since. I'm a thousand miles away now, but I would go see him if I ever need neurosurgery again.
