It was a Godsend when I was referred to Dr. Womack by my (new) primary physician, Dr. McKinnon. After searching for foot correction by way of Lapiplasty, I'm feeling confident and stronger as I recover from surgery less than two weeks ago. I highly recommend his services to those who seek resolution to a long-term foot problem that developed into a "limp".

What I have read here is absolutely true. I went in with severe foot pain and after surgery I continued to have pain. Dr Womack told me it was normal and dismissed my concerns. I have had foot pain ever since. Please seek out a better doctor who actually cares if you have constant pain.

Dr. Womack performed a bunionectomy to relieve my issue of soreness around toes. He recommended a new, less invasive procedure that he said he had recently learned about at a medical conference. I completely trusted his expertise. In short, all 3 pieces of hardware he put into my foot during surgery at a local hospital quickly became infected with MSSA. During the 2 months post-op that I was under his care the bone infection eroded away most of the bone in my right foot and permanently destroyed much of the cartilage. Despite constant pain and symptoms of infection, Dr. Womack only prescribed salve from Trader Joe's to combat the symptoms. When I got a 2nd opinion that signs of infection were apparent at a wound care clinic, I was sent back to Dr. Womack. He simply surgically removed one of my three of my screws and stitched my foot back up and sent me home, offering no further culture, tests or diagnoses. He assured me I was fine and that he had done a great job on the bunionectory and he was very pleased. His medical colleague simply deferred to Dr. Womack and offered no helpful medical opinion when I was seen by him during a walk-in visit. I continued to be under the care of Dr. Womack and his practice, Piedmont Orthopedic. I was in so much pain after surgery #2 and my foot was so bloated and gray 2 months in, still bleeding I could no longer sleep through the pain. Dr. Womack again assured me everything was normal casually via email. At my wits end and at the insistence of my health insurance company's health care coach, I got another opinion from an orthopedic surgeon in MUSC Charleston who immediately diagnosed the issue as a very serious bone infection. My blood test results and a culture provided obvious signs that no medical professional should have missed. I battled the infection, which at this point had ravaged my foot to the degree of swiss cheese. My new doctor had to de-breed the foot 5 months in, remove the last 2 screws, which were also infected, and put me under the care of an infectious disease doctor for a full week, followed by 6 weeks of at home care with potent antibiotic injections and a stint to my heart. I missed a lot of work and spent weeks and months on painkiller. In the end, Dr. Womack & his practice ended up sending me to collections to recover extra $$ on surgery #2, not covered by my insurance. Today, over a year later I have a deformity in my foot and take every step with pain. Blatant failure to diagnose and egotistical insistence that my dreadful post-surgery experience was 'normal' leads me to NOT recommend this physician for your orthopedic needs.

I went in with terrible ankle pain from a sprain that was refusing to heal, and he barely spent any time looking into how to help me. He looked at my X-ray, forced my ankle into different positions and sent me home with a meloxicam prescription, a Theraband, ankle brace, and a paper sheet with exercises on it ... total waste of $$...now here I am on week 18 since my injury with no help, no solutions, no diagnosis, nothing but severe ankle pain... not to even mention that when I arrived for the appointment, the line was out the door due to poor front desk staffing... I was early for the appointment when I arrived, then had to stand in line for 30 minutes and was late for the appointment when I finally got checked in. Ridiculous!
