I'm a firefighter/Paramedic who has heard and seen it all--at least from the many doctors and nurses I've met over many years being in and out of hospitals professionally. My family has an unusual trait called malignant hyperthermia that can cause serious problems or fatalities when a person is anesthetized even for a simple procedure. I was put in touch with Dr. Starkman when I told my surgeon about my family's history---and I really didn't expect much other than--"well, I'll see you and discuss this the day of surgery". NOT SO FAST: Dr. Starkman asked me when I could come to the hospital to see him in the days before my surgery, and met me to discuss my issues and what the plan would be to avoid the problems that can rise from my family's problem (above). He knew the whole thing cold! Put my fears to rest and kept in close contact on my arrival to the surgery unit and through surgery until my discharge---and no problem with malignant hyperthermia. The guy really went out of his way for me. Care and communication both A+! I went home with no complications, quite pleased with the whole experience. I can't recommend him enough.

Took excellent care of my youngest boy when he had his tonsillectomy. He was really good about helping him over the scary "separation" aspect of leaving me and my husband and heading to the operating room. I'd definitely use again if any family member had to have surgery and I had a choice.

Very knowledgeable. Easy to speak with. Explained the plan for my anesthesia for my knee arthroscopy and answered my questions quite thoroughly.

Helpful. Takes time to answer all questions about surgery and the anesthesia. Called at home the next day to check on how everything went after the recovery room and eventual discharge home.
