My comments are simple, I wasn't concerned with his bedside manner or office manners. My only concerns were: What will your services provide toward my quality of life? Will the ablation be lasting? Will I survive the procedure? The answers to all are positive. I survived, am in rhythm now, and feel better with more energy and stamina. I call that a win/win. Thanks doc.

Dr Smith’s bedside manner is really weak. In addition, when I was in the hospital for an ablation I had two significant issues: (1) Dr Smith did not tell me that he was scheduling me for a TEE prior to the ablation. To make this worse, I had never met the man who did the TEE prior to him walking on my room to do the TEE. He introduced himself as a doctor who was called Dr U - some name to rhyme with Uncle. I still don’t know his name or qualifications two weeks later. (2) I received hydrocodone after the procedure and for the next 24 hours until released to go home. When Dr Smith came to see me after holding me over for a night, I told him that I was uncomfortable from the ablation, but really sore from the TEE. I explained that I had had an EGD on my esophagus about 2 months prior to the TEE during which the Gastrologist surgically removed polyps which left me in pain, but the pain from that procedure was no where close to that created by the TEE. He didn’t seem to care. After an extended discussion in which I told him that the only thing I could take is Norco, he made it pretty clear that he was concerned about me taking Norco because of the acetaminophen. I told him that I would be okay with anything that he prescribed. He left to sign the discharge papers. Shortly after he left the nurse came in with the discharge papers and a prescription for pain killer. I had only asked for 6 pills. Since he did not allow the nurse to give me the Norco when it was due an hour before the discharge visit, he gave me a prescription for 7 hydrocodone. I did not look at the papers until the next morning. I left the prescription for pain killers at the pharmacy and returned an hour later to pick up the meds, the pharmacist told me that they did not have what the doctor prescribed which was hydrocodone capsules without acetaminophen. I made several calls to the nearby pharmacies and none had the prescribed drug in stock. As a result I called Dr Smiths nurse and asked to get the prescription charged to Norco. She said she would immediately send my message to Dr Smith for approval. I heard nothing from the doctor that day. I called the next morning and went through the same song and dance. I waited six hours and called again. This time I was told that the doctor still had not approved the change, but the nurse would call me as soon as he approved the new prescription. I never heard back from Dr Smith or his team. I concluded that he was purposely trying to get me to give up. It worked. In fact I concluded that I understood his strategy no matter how unethical I thought it was. It is now two weeks later and I have heard nothing. In conclusion, it is unclear whether his actions were intentional or he doesn’t know as much as he should to treat his patients. I do not recommend Dr Smith and would prefer to see a different doctor even if I have to go out of state to find one.

Met with Dr. Smith via referral from my cardiologist to schedule a radiofrequency catheter ablation. He did not make eye contact and focused on making entries on a computer. He seemed irritated when I asked clarifying questions. I went ahead with the procedure which was successful in addressing my arrhythmia, but had a post procedure infection at the insertion site of the catheter. It took a phone call to the group practice manager to get an appointment to be seen. His technical expertise is excellent, but follow up and interpersonal skills are unacceptable.

I had several test and diagnostic procedures done and went to a follow up visit to get the result of my tests and hopefully get a treatment plan. Dr. Smith had not reviewed the results of my tests and diagnostics before entering the exam room. He looked at the computer screen and got irritated when I asked him the results of my tests. He was very unpleasant and un-friendly.
