Great Doctor ! The Most Competent I have ever met.

My colon Ruptured and I went to my closest hospital (It was NOT the Mayo). I developed Sepsis and spent a month there ( Gilbert M***Y ) and the treatment I received almost ended my Life. I was released with a ileostomy / Bag on my side and told to return to be reconnected in 3 months.
After I was released I thought there has to be better out there, I contracted the Mayo , Submitted my medical records and was told the review could take a bit of time. To my surprise I was called within a week and told that Dr. Etzioni ( Chief of Surgery Mayo Clinic Phoenix) would like to see me. In our First meeting I was told that the other surgeon had sewn my colon shut, creating a dangerous situation. He said it will take Two surgeries to get me put back together correctly. He looked to my Wife and said (" Robert has been through a lot. We will take care Him") And he did; I received the best care of my Life. Dr. Etzioni In an amazing Surgeon!

Dr. Etzioni was very kind and informative. He met with myself and two of my sisters. He explained the surgery that was needed in great detail. On the morning of surgery I panicked and he was very comforting. His staff was very kind and supportive. I would highly recommend to make the time to have a consultation with Dr. Etzioni. I believe he is the best physician and works at an awesome hospital.

I’m a general surgeon and vascular surgeon Who developed diverticulitis. I changed my whole insurance plan for my company with 75 employees and myself in order to go to mayo clinic after my first bout of diverticulitis at an outlying hospital. I met Dr Etzioni And told him that the chances of me having a second episode are relatively high and the reason for my visit was for him to know my history and if I do develop a second bout of diverticulitis I will go to mayo clinic and I would like for him to take care of me. I developed Abdominal pain and I knew I had diverticulitis again. I spoke with him over the phone and he was rude and said I don’t know what you have over the phone. I therefore told him that I will be going to mail clinic emergency room to get a CAT scan. I asked the emergency room physician to notify the doctor. They admitted me to the hospital under a internist. I asked the internist multiple times if he notified Dr Etzioni. He said yes. Not once during my admission did he show up to see me or have one of his residents or fellows see me. The only person that saw me was my vascular surgery buddy who works at Mayo clinic and I told him how disappointed I am and he said he was not surprised. Don’t go there

I am about 6 years removed from my colon being sectioned in my mid 30's and this absolute Ace of a doctor and on point team made me feel like there was nothing as important than I. He successfully performed a one stage colon surgery which my meant no waste sac! Was I in pain for a week or so, you better bleeping believe it, but it was the most welcomed pain because I was alive and prognosis was great not to have a corrective 2 stage surgery. Beautiful perfect scars on my abdomen that have mostly faded as it was done without the need of a full open surgery. Then this was a relatively new technique abeit with great results to support it but also short history. I can just remember how I felt like I am good no matter what with him as my doctor. I wish I could say about all my experiences with Doctors. This is what you imagined as a child "a doctor was this type of hero, told you not to worry I will fix you up in a jiffy" and that was how it went! If there ever was a reason to never allow socialistic death care to overtake our current health system it's Doc's like Etzioni...if not what would be the incentive for great surgeons with unmatched skills to push the limits if not to be the best and a pioneer in such newer less invasive yet more complex procedures that our current system awards. Otherwise you would never know who was uniquely skilled and gifted vs. the other guy who was forced to become a doctor albeit may have the ability but without passion to be great you might as well get your triple heart bypass at your local Animal Hospital and your ACL surgery at the Dentist around the corner. So think twice about Socialized Health Care because you won't have a choice nor will you know how your surgeon compared another. I can't believe that in America where everything we are, everything we do and Everything we fought for is all about one thing FREEDOM!! And you want to.habd it over to the government cause they know better...really? You have no self worth, respect, pride, intelligent enough to use your money as you see fit. Get up go to a mirror and repeat....
I am not smart enough to manage what I have earned (better yet tell your employer that)
I am not confident enough to manage my own money wisely.
I am just too weak and would rather some stranger to take 75percent and give to lazy, drug using, child abusing overweight poor me winers.
Hey a little secret ...in life there are winners and lisers, some earn more than others, some have worse luck, some good luck, some live long time and some barely get to live the key is to accept and live yours to the fullest and help those who want to help themselves.in the words if Michael Jordan if you can ask me for change you can also say "welcome to McDonald's may I help you" and the next time you fill the need to give money to a beggar on the street corner take that money clinch it in your fist and pull up to a fast food restaurant and give it to a worker because that person will appreciate it more and you will enable them to stand a little straighter and just justified their efforts when you know it's also a struggle to swallow your pride to flip burgers but I take my hat off to those who do it with a smile as it maybe the most thankless and hardest job that is out there. God Bless those with that purpose that still thrives inside and earning what you get is the best thing for the soul and it is what makes America the greatest country God has given mankind, lets not forsaken it or dishonor it. It a blessing and even a burger flipper at McDonald's anywhere in America I bet lands in the upper 3rd of all humans in regards to wealth. I salute those who are humble and give back and those who are satisfied and appreciative. Don't judge for you are no better than the man next to you if that man provides and fullfils the needs of his family the best he knows how and with integrity and honor doing it the right way he is your equal and like you demands no more or no less from his fellow man!

Dr. Etzioni is the best! I was diagnosed with cancer cells on my first colonoscopy at 50. The first surgeon I met with (with no scans complete) guessed it was early cancer but I’d need “some chemo and radiation” which floored me. My RN friend suggested Mayo and Dr E. He was so thorough with listening, ordering the right blood work and scans, etc. He has a great bed dude manner and genuinely cares about his patients. Turns out I only needed a simple surgery to check margins and no further treatment. Cancer free! I go for routine checks now but I always enjoy my experience at Mayo. They are the perfect case study in operational efficiency!

Dr. Etzioni basically gave me my life back. After years of suffering with Crohn's/UC the time came that surgery was the only thing left. Dr. Etzioni explained everything thoroughly and answered all of my questions, no matter how trivial they probably seemed to him. The surgery was a complete success and I now live a pain-free life with no issues at all. Dr. Etzioni, the Mayo staff and all concerned cannot be topped in any hospital anywhere!

Dr. Etzioni is a kind, patient, knowledgeable , and highly skilled surgeon. He took the time to answer my questions as well as all of my family's questions. He is an excellent listener. I had some difficulties post op and Dr. E. Came by every day, sometimes twice a day to check on me. He made all the right calls and I was released when I was truly ready. He did not rush me out even though they were short on beds in the hospital. He made sure that I was comfortable going home. This was a long, difficult surgery, and he did an outstanding job. My recovery has been easy. I highly recommend Dr. e and the Mayo Clinic!!!!!!!'

Dr. Etzioni was arrogant and short with me on my first visit. I was experiencing pain and his examination was without any
empathy for my pain or gentleness. Furthermore I have a chronic condition that is painful and he was arrogant and advised me he had more important surgeries that day than mine. I have had 4 other surgeries at the Mayo Clinic and he did not do any tests prior to surgery and appeared did not read my history. He has a horrible bedside manner and a huge ego.

Dr. Etzione said he did not know what my medical problem was and also that he would not help me to find out. I've never met a doctor that didn't want to help their patient until now.

A+++. So glad I found him and this team of Mayo doctors. I transferred my care from another local hospital. The difference in patient care was second to none. Dr. Etzioni is a top notch, kind and caring surgeon who makes you feel like you're his only patient. Love DR. E and The Mayo Clinic for saving my life. Highly recommend.
