Don’t trust. Be careful. Others do what he does with creating more tongue space. Keep looking.

Beware of this guy's ethics. Dentists, don't refer patients! He is good for palate advancement to give tongue space to cure clenching or apnea or to take pressure off your joints. HOWEVER, 1. Don't trust his surgeon referral advice 2. If you are on a surgical plan, don't trust his information on healing time/time in braces after surgery (all downplayed and lacking vital information that might make you not go through with surgery). 3. If surgery is botched by his favorite surgeon(Reza Movahed), Hang has zero empathy and downplays everything about it. "well this is your new face now, so you'll have to get used to it." "well sometimes these things are hard to get right." (a far cry from the tune he sang about Movahed's skill for the two years prior to my surgery!) And my favorite: "he actually gave you the face shape of a model" (laughable since 1.5 yrs after surgery people are asking me if I am going to go on the show Botched (google it) 4.He is tone deaf to what you tell him and he misrepresents the depth to which he and Movahed consult on the surgical plan in advance. Details on each: #1: he wants you to use a surgeon (Reza Movahed) who he swears is every bit as good as Larry Wolford for joints, but surgeons who know Wolford's work say he'd never have made the surgical mistakes Movahed did on me. Hang and Movahed tour around together giving talks and holding classes on sleep apnea and thus, at a minimum, he has a vested interest in sharing patient referrals coming from these docs in attendance, and I believe in hindsight, that he MAY have gotten a kickback/large referral fee for sending me to Movahed. IF that is the case, his medical advice to me was not pure. There were too many instances in which he seemed far too vested in me continuing along the initial plan and getting the surgery even after I explained that I was feeling so good after his palate treatment that I wasn't sure I even needed surgery (and the two years in braces that would accompany it!).It was an all-inclusive price that I had already fully paid, so he wasn't missing out on money if I didn't proceed with initial plan that included braces. In fact, he'd be saving time/money by me not doing surgery UNLESS a referral bonus was involved for surgery. Other docs have said he should not have encouraged me at that point to do the surgery and should ONLY have encouraged me to seek out other surgical opinions if I wasn't sure. One said unethical. Instead, Hang told me he thinks my lower airway could still stand to be bigger (though I shared that I was having NO apnea at that point, and I never did have true sleep apnea - just PRE-sleep apnea, waking up before losing air. He knew that, and it was HIS palate advancement that cured it.) He further encouraged surgery by telling me how I could benefit from a broader smile that the surgery would provide (Movahed left me with no upper teeth showing when I smile). I make sure to let people know where I got my orthodontic treatment when they wonder what happened to my smile. I'm a horrible walking advertisement for Hang's orthodontic work.

I do believe Hang is genuine in his desire to help his field move fwd by not retracting and extracting teeth, and in his desire to help patients' sleep apnea, but I believe he can also have a conflict of interest in his referrals as well as be TOO myopic in his focus on apnea causing him to not weigh each patient's needs uniquely. (3 surgeons since, have said if I had no chronic pain, headaches or bad sleep apnea by surgery time, nor nasal obstruction EVER, I should not have been encouraged by an orthodontist to have the surgical plan Movahed had me on). #2 he downplayed timeframes and never told me there'd be a plastic splint attached that would prevent him from doing any braces adjustments for three months post-up (and prevent me from talking right). He downplayed in advance my healing time. They both told me 4-6 weeks. I needed every bit of 3 months before I could go back to work (I speak a lot in my job) #3 is self explanatory. #4: I spent 2 years in treatment with Hang prior to surgery yet he kept referring to symptoms I didn't have, as if I did (that many apnea patients do have) like mouth breathing, nose breathing issues (I had none), etc.It was as if he wanted to see me as a far worse patient than I was, medically, or confused me with other patients. After the surgery I kept telling both of them the tongue crowding that Hang had fixed with palatal advancement was back (Movahed moved my tongue forward) but Hang deflected onto the topic of my new lateral tongue space ignoring what I was telling him. They both also ignored my concerns that I newly HAD apnea in the months after surgery. It took Hang 6 months to suggest myofunctional therapy to strengthen my tongue. He was full of help and suggestions prior to him and Movahed having all my money, but after surgery when I had far more problems than before, Hang was disinterested in suggesting solutions!!

Dr. Bill Hang is incredibly beyond competent in his work. When one listens to him lecture and then speaks with him, one realizes that he can describe your life as it relates to his work in a nutshell. I have been doing my homework on Orthodontists. My conclusion is that Dr. Hang is very far ahead of his colleagues. I do not know about the others and their reasons for posting both positive and negative remarks. I do know that Dr. Hang's success rate out distances all of his colleagues. I found him to be a very good listener. I usually do not take kindly to doctors who have the attitude of "you are not a doctor, so I am not even going to bother to pay much attention to what you say." Dr. Hang listened to me. He offered options. He did not pitch me or try to sell me. I felt very much that he cared about his profession and ultimately the great results he would provide to me. I tell every mother, every father - every parent regardless of geographical location. Dr. Hang will address every situation carefully and correctly. In the end, one receives the treatment they "should" receive and it saves a great deal of money in the long run. Last but not least, when a man cares and has a goal to improve the lifestyle and quality of life of another person then the "right thing" has been done. Dr. Bill and Debbie Hang are the best!

This man is horrible and so is his wife. He is no genius. He is an opportunist. I am a patient. I used to trust him and he and his wife are bad news. She is quite viscous. Neither one professional. If you stand up to his inappropriate behaviorv they will turn on you. They are nice so long as you comply with their abuse and have your money. He will literally leave you hanging and did something to me unimaginable. He uses his knowledge to take advantage and have a corner market and its all about the money. He thinks people owe him special treatment because of his approach so uses this to be haughty arrogant, charge excessive prices and does not listen to patient. I consider his personality to be vengeful and abusive. If you have not seen this side of him be glad however beware it exists.

Dr. Hang has a unique perspective but he is right on target and on the cutting edge of where orthodontia needs to go. he is a genius. don't believe any negative comments you see elsewhere, they are misinformed in my opinion. and probably planted by competitors who don't understand what he is doing.

Please, don't believe dr.Hang's theory that orthodontic treatment by him can resolve your OSA or pain issues if you are adult. Be aware that his Ego is big and he gets quite agitated if you come forward with facts in your own case that somehow don't confirm or challenge his theory in any way! The other aspect of his work that I would like to address is his rudeness with people that he evaluates as "insignificant" - not famous, powerless in a way that he determines in relation to his reputation. My first visit at his office on the way to X-ray room he tried to sell his work to me not even realizing that he addressed me : "you are an old Goat" after which his assistant and I were stunned!!! I have been told and threatened on several occasions by his wife and him that "straight teeth was never part of the deal". I was left wit severe damage to TMJ ligaments, clicking of the jaw. He doesn't stand behind any claims!!! People, be aware of danger!!! [View Detailed Review]
