Glen Carlson is among the most thorough and knowledgeable pathologists in the US. While pathologists rarely have direct contact with the living, ALL surgical patients should know what an impact on care their pathology report has; therefore, when a request for a specific pathologist is allowed, choose one in whom other doctors would place their trust. (When a family member had a biopsy performed in another facility, I asked that slides be sent to Glen Carlson for a second opinion. He found something not mentioned by the original pathologist, and subsequent care was altered to include treatment of the discovery made by Dr. Carlson.) All of the pathologists at Piedmont Hospital are skilled and thorough, but when operated upon elsewhere, ASK YOUR SURGEON to send specimens to the pathologist to whom he or she would send specimens removed from his mother, sister, brother, father, spouse, or child. You'll likely get the best analysis by making that specific request!
