I’m not really sure that Dr. Gates really wants to be a small town doctor. He appears to lack the requisite acumen. His demeanor, lack of bedside manner, poor listening skills, aloofness, distance and focus on money, data and specifics rather than hearing what the patient is really trying to convey make me question whether or not he is really suited for this profession. Competence as defined as clinical acumen only goes so far. Unfortunately the fish rots from the head and w/a few exceptions his staff, although well meaning, are a reflection of Dr. Gates. I have ground truthed this opinion w/several other locals who concur. At the end of the day my sense is that the only reason MMC survives is that the alternatives are worse.
