I am in complete disbelief by the subpar level of treatment and professionalism displayed by Dr. Pino Colone, Chief of ER on 5/9/17. What he lacks in compassion, he excels in arrogance and ineptitude. My wife arrived with a 9 out of 10 on the pain scale, had been treated previously for the same thing in the ER, which has since escalated and required immediate assistance. He offered pain relief (which took nearly 2hrs after that conversation to deliver), but refused to issue any diagnostics beyond a basic work up to identify anything related to the underlying problem.
Medical records from the primary care physician were provided to ensure he had all the facts to consider as part of his path forward. When asking questions on his approach, he took the opportunity to remind us that he’s the doctor who needs to be treated with a certain level of respect and that nothing beyond his current approach will be done. He made my wife cry and felt compelled to add insult to injury by informing her that she’s being disrespectful, he would no longer offer his assistance and that we would be immediately discharged. After diffusing the situation, he agreed to run one more basic test not aligned to the core problem. An hour later, he recited his same argument and she was discharged no further ahead than before got there, essentially passing the problem onto someone else to diagnose in dire conditions.
