Biography

Dr. Mary K. Mather earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and a medical degree from the Uniformed Services University, F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine. She completed her internship at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, CO, and dermatology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Mather is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and recipient of the Army Surgeon's General Award, the most prestigious award given to an Army graduate in the medical school class, in recognition of academic excellence and leadership. She was honored as the "Top Resident" in her Walter Reed class and was invited to stay on the residency teaching staff at Walter Reed at the conclusion of her training. During her 15 years of honorable Army service, Dr. Mather received the Army Achievement Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, and the Meritorious Service Medal for her tireless support of the active and retired military, for her Directorship of the Dermatology Laboratory and Risk Management programs, and as teaching faculty at Uniformed Services University, Walter Reed and National Naval Medical Centers. After separating from the Army, Dr. Mather joined Fair Oaks Skin Care Center, a highly respected medical and cosmetic dermatology practice in Fairfax, Virginia. At Fair Oaks Skin Care, Dr. Mather continued to care for medical dermatology patients and gained extensive experience in all aspects of cosmetic dermatology with the use of the latest laser technologies, chemical peels, and injectable anti-wrinkle treatments. Dr. Mather has continued to serve our military by working at Veterans Administration Hospital in Washington, D.C. on the Telemedicine Program, offering dermatology expertise to underserved Veterans Administration clinics, and by performing disability evaluation examinations for our wounded warriors.
