His knowledge in this field and ability to connect with all people is incredible. My Daughter has Down Syndrom and is non-verbal. From day one Dr. Lau stooped down eye-to-eye held Cheryl's hand as he was talking TO her and she connected with to him and his kindness immediately. He is among so few doctors who are not "skiddish" about/with the disabled. He was able to examine her and gave total and ccomplete information about what needed to be done and how as it pertained to her Hugh Ventral Hernia. This man IS an incredible person and doctor. He stayed in touch with me continously when she and I need his help the most. He picked up the phone and called back immediately when contacted. My daughter went through major surgery and so did I. I was so afraid for my daughter and all she went through; but I thank God for Blessing us with a unique and caring doctor. There is not enough time or space to express my gratitude for Dr. Lau. I highly recommend this Doctor.

I regret trusting Dr. Lau and Phelps Hospital.
Dr. Har Chi Lau performed a hernia surgery on my husband. On the day of surgery, we entered Phelps hospital at 8 am. At three o'clock in the afternoon, Dr. Lau told me on the phone that the surgery went well and my husband could go home the same day. At 7:00 p.m., they guided me to the recovery room. My husband was breathing hard. The nurse in charge told me that Dr. Lau had discharged my husband, but she couldn't allow it. She said he was not breathing well.

At 11 p.m., my husband was transferred to a room on the hospital's third floor. And due to the lack of staff at that time, my husband was placed on the hospital bed in negligence, and he endured terrible pain due to being moved on the bed and cried loudly. He was in the hospital for two days and could hardly breathe. I requested to visit a lung doctor or pulmonologist. The lung doctor saw him and did not understand. My husband was discharged two days after surgery. Four hours after we got home, he had symptoms like nausea. I called Dr. Lau, and he told me not to worry. Let him rest. I called Dr. Lau twice. I did not get the result. Two hours had passed. I called 911. They came and took my husband to another hospital. He passed away in the ambulance. I regret trusting Dr. Lau and Phelps Hospital. My life is miserable after my husband’s death. I can’t forgive myself. Why did I trust them?

I want to express that I am extremely satisfied with my experience with Dr. Lau and his staff. I had been suffering with a hernia (turned out to be two hernia's after Dr. Lau ordered a Cat Scan)for years. I had addressed my issues with two other doctors over the years only to be told that it was nothing. I knew it was something and called Dr. Lau's office after doing research online for a Hernia specialist. They scheduled me right away. The staff was very courtious. On my 1st visit with Dr. Lau, he took the time to listen to what I had to say and took me serious. He explained to me what was going on and told me what he would do to fix it. Did not sugar coat anything and explained it would be painful. Surgery was performed and he could not have been nicer. Soft spoken and reassurring... not to mention hardly visible incision (holes). Post op visit was encouraging as well. Would recommend him to all my family and friends..
