If you have the ability to take your child to a different GI Specialist please do. Dr. Mehra did a tremendous disservice to our son. She was his Dr. for 4 years and allowed him to suffer mercilessly when a simple test (she never ordered) could have solved the problem. My son developed high anxiety, and we watched his high school career and life go to pieces because of her utter lack of care. I can say this because after he turned 18 we took him to an adult GI specialist who solved his problem after 2 visits. The adult GI ordered a SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) - which came back very positive and he was given a 2 week dose of anti-biotics and now he is doing great! There is NO excuse for a pediatric GI specialist to see a patient for 4 years (every 3 months) and NOT have thought to give our son a test that another Dr. figured out in 2 visits! Crippling gas (my son belched like a sailor constantly), nausea and pain are not normal OR in someone's head. Even my son's primary physician stated that his belching was not normal. Dr. Mehra tried to blame EVERYTHING else for his condition - from not eating enough fruit, to having to wake early for his high school band practices, to his anxiety - which was caused by his unending condition! (instead of looking for a REAL medical reason for the problem). You may ask, why we as his parents didn't do something different? As you may know there are not many pediatric GI specialists in the area AND since she was a specialist AND you are begging her for help - that she would do all in her wheelhouse to solve the problem. She actually scolded my son in the last few appointments, telling him that if he didn't get psychological help she would no longer treat him. My son never had an anxious day prior to this condition that plagued him all through high school. I can not tell you how drastically this changed the trajectory of his life - quitting marching band, grades going downhill, attitude etc. -- he can't get those 4 years back and it is heartbreaking to think of what our son had to endure because Dr. Mehra never ordered a simple test AND how differently his life might look today if he was able to focus on his high school education instead of his health. If your child needs a pediatric GI specialist - I'd avoid Dr. Mini Mehra like the plague.
