Our family has had the pleasure of being added to Dr. Meltzer and staff's list of patients. In 2000, Dr. Meltzer saved our son's life, and continues to be diligent in caring for him. The staff is polite, the timing is excellent, each are helpful, and knowledgeable. I am the mother of a 14 year old male who would not have lived past his 1st birthday without Dr. Hal Meltzer. How does a mother than a person who has saved her son's life on more than one occasion? If you are looking for the best Neurosurgeon in the world, Dr. Hal Meltzer is that professional. This mother has shared smiles, tears, laughter, and so much more due to his expertise. Thank you. ~Carol Shafer

When my first neurosurgeon left (who I saw for my first shunt placement and that's it) I was referred to Dr. Meltzer. I found he to be phenomonal. He was so very kind to me and and did not complicate anything. When he would speak to my parents he wouldn't use big scary words in front of me. when I went in for my second surgery he was so amazing and my scar is great! (my first scar looks like it was botched.) All of this praise being said I have recently transferred out of pediatrics and he couldn't have been more useless. My last visit he was a little distant and when we asked him if he had any recomendations (we didn't want to just pick at random) he said "no anyone will do they are all good" as well as "You should transfer now I don't like to keep adults as patients" (yet I have heard of this happening.) Just don't get too attached to him.

This is a fabulous doctor! I'm glad my son, Alessandro, got his surgery with Dr. Meltzer, he was so kind and helpful and knowledgeable. I've had bad experiences with pompous doctors, and Dr. Meltzer is NOT one. I would definitely recommend him, and am hard-pressed to believe these other reviews. Thank you Dr. Meltzer, I know my son was in good hands!

Dr. Meltzer makes himself look remarkable on his resume but as a professional is not worthy of the word.He is senseless, and imprudent. I have a one year old son with spina bifida and instead of Dr. Meltzer taking care of my sons needs he would rather talk about how great his reputation is in the state of California. He orders a bunch of useless test that could have put my childs life in danger and believes he is above everyone, and will talk down to you. When he did finally see my child, he told me he might have craniosynostosis and wanted to get a CT scan. This was about 2 months ago and I have yet to hear from him since. I have called numerous times and spoke to the rude and obnoxious nurses who basically told me that Dr. Meltzer does not want my son as a patient because he doesn't like me and I may potentially ruin his reputation.

He didnt know anything about us or why we were there, did not have the xrays, refered us to another dr and was not helpful or sympathetic to our babies condition at all. We are looking for another dr. Also, receptionist was on personal call on cell phone instead of assisting us.
