I am 62, and my situation starts with the fact that I’ve had major dental issues my entire adult life. In fact, my entire upper teeth all have crowns that are 20-25 years old. While having two implants put in, the dentist recommended a x-ray to see what was going on under my crowns, and the results were not good. Several crowns appeared to have decay and issues under the surface, and the x-ray revealed that to be the case, along with a bridge that was in bad shape below the surface.

I was referred to Dr Scharf for a recommendation and it was suggested that I consider a cosmetic makeover that literally required every crown and tooth to be replaced. In addition, I needed a couple of additional implants, which would take 3 months to fully set. My immediate concerns were petty straight forward….

First… fear of what it would involve
Second… concern with implants and the 3-4 months it takes for them to fully set
Third… a grave concern over what my teeth would look like with a temp on the entire uppers for the next three months.

On the flip side, I also thought about how many times over the past decade I became more self-conscious at the deterioration of my crowns and teeth. The front teeth were 25-year old crowns in the metal type as a base, and the gum recession left gap where silver was showing at the gum margin. Additionally, the other crowns had been put in over the past 25 years and had deteriorated and also didn’t really match.

After an examination with Dr Scharf, we discussed what would be involved. He addressed every question and his confidence in the process was reassuring. In a consultative manner Dr Scharf walk me through every aspect of what he recommended based on what he perceived I wanted as an outcome. The outcome of course I had in mind would be to turn the hands of the clock 40 years to when I had nice teeth and didn’t hide my smile from being self-conscious.

In all honesty, as mentioned above, I had thought about getting a smile makeover, but simply never moved beyond it being a passing thought. However, with the advent of needing some heavy dental work done anyway, I made the decision to go all in with a full dental makeover. I must say that the encouragement and support of Dr Scharf helped give me the confidence to take the leap.

Day one…This was a monstrous project and I literally couldn’t sleep the night before the process began. I was concerned about the pain of removing all the old crowns, and the fear of not knowing what was underneath, as some of the crowns were over 25 years old. During the first visit, he removed all the crowns from the top leaving the little stumps, and it went surprisingly well and issue free.

This was quite the process taking over three-hours Once this was done my concern quickly switched to back to the appearance for the next few months while waiting for the implants to take hold. I couldn’t see what Dr Scharf was actually doing, but for almost an hour he worked building the temporary full set of upper teeth that also had to be split in half so implants could be done with two teeth the next day. All I know is he must have slid it on and off my teeth 100 times during this period to get the right fit. I have to say by this point I was exhausted.

Now the great news. The temporary teeth looked incredible, and in fact as he had told me during our original consultation, already looked better than what I had. I was a little dopey at that point but didn’t fully realize just how good they looked until I woke up the next morning. In fact, called the office to thank him for such a great job.

If you need serious dental work and want to put your mind at ease that it will be done correctly, then no doubt Dr Scharf and his team is the dentist to see. He is a total pro and is extremely meticulous about every aspect of the work being done. No doubt this will be my new dental office for care and upkeep of my new teeth. I can’t wait for all my new teeth to be put in in the months ahead, and based on my interactions thus far, have no worries about the outcome.

Thorough, capable and considerate professional. Been going to him for years and would not go to any other dentist. Also, the cleanliness standards are above compare, unlike some other dentists I had years ago. Would recommend his services without question.
