Dr. Ryu is the most unprofessional doctor I have seen. He wrote a scathing report about me personally after my visit several years ago. It was a personal attack on me and in writing no less. He needs to go back to medical school and learn bed side manners when asked a question and learn how to write a proper report of a patient without personal attacks.

Over the past couple of decades I was able to alleviate the pain in my non dominant shoulder with proper PT exercises, Advil and ice until just recently when the pain presented on a constant chronic basis. Fortunately I was able to get in to see Dr. Ryu for an evaluation. Following a thorough exam and MRI it was determined that I had a complex tear of the rotator cuff tendon with portions of the tear exhibiting full thickness retraction, along with a bone spur to aggravate things even further. In other words it was a really nasty tear. I opted for the rotator cuff surgery procedure, that was the easy part, as I am fully aware that Dr. Ryu is a highly skilled and gifted orthopedic surgeon. The part that was not so easy to swallow was the seven month post operative therapy period. Even that didn't turn out so bad as he was there the whole way with periodic follow-ups/assessments and making certain that I was staying the course and following his instructions. I am fully recovered, pain free with full range of motion. A huge thank you to Dr. Ryu and his staff. I would recommend Dr. Ryu without reservations.

I destroyed my left shoulder rotator cuff after an accidental fall. Dr. Ryu at our first meeting seemed less than willing to want me as a patient based on the severe damage done to my left shoulder rotator cuff. He kept advising that the process/recovery could be painful and that the final result would not make my shoulder 100% as it was prior to my fall. He was very straight forward, not overly friendly. Doing my due diligence I consulted with another orthopedic surgeon who was well known for taking care of most of the southern california professional atheletes who had either shoulder or knee injuries. After he and his staff tested me and reviewed my MRI he stated I needed a completed shoulder replacemen and that he does not do that kind of surgery. I then went back to Dr. Ryu and told him I would accept whatever outcome he could provide me with in order to avoid shoulder replacement. He assured me he could help me.

It has been a little over a year since my surgery. Dr Ryu is an absolutely top notch surgeon. I had major surgery by him when I fell two of my shoulder tendons were completely destroyed and not repairable the third tendon had a significant tear, the bicep tendon was detachedfrom the bone and I had a number of bone spurs. Following surgery I had discomfort but not pain. Dr Ryu each time I saw him gave me specific instructions on how to progress with my care and rehab with my shoulder. I followed his instructions religiously and have had great results. After I completed rehab I enrolled in a Core Fitness program for the past 5 months and have regained muscle tone and strength. I am back playing golf, exercising and trimiming trees and shrubs on my property without restrictions and or pain. A little more about Dr. Ryu he is a no nonsense doctor he expects you to be on time for appointments and to follow his directions on care after surgery and with rehab. I live as do a number of his patients about a 1 hour drive from Dr. Ryu's office. This should tell you a lot about Dr. Ryu. On SUNDAYS he would make the 1 hour drive to an office near my and other patients homes to hold our follow up appointments and check on our progress. He stated to me at one of our appointments that it made more sense for 1 person to drive an hour vs. a dozen patients all getting on the freeway to see him. He is as good as it gets, and results and his talent mean far more to me that if he is too straight forward for some peoples tastes. I highly recommend him and I have had a number of surgeries in my life and have had a mix of great, good and poor results. Dr. Ryu can deliver great results if you are also a great patient and do your part.

If you want a surgeon who knows what he is doing Ryu is the guy for arthoscopic knee repairs. He will tell you what he can do to help you and if you follow his post op instructions to the letter, you will be well on your way to getting back to your pre-injury activities! He replaced a torn ACL and not only was my post op phase near painless, his very exact instructions paid off and I was back to spin classes, hiking, and exercise in about 5 months. Very happy -cheers to healthy knees and amazing surgical outcomes by Dr. Ryu !

My knee was so bad I couldn't kneel without pain so I went to see Dr. Ryu. He examined me and his diagnoses was right on and after the MRI conformation he suggested repairing my knee and after three weeks I am back to normal with no pain or problems. Dr. Ryu is the best in his field and well worth the wait.

Dr. Ryu is a narcissistic a-hole. If you have major trauma or something that needs obvious surgery he is probably great, but if you have anything more complicated, he is not friendly at all. He basically operates like a surgical factory - get em in - churn em out. He won't spend hardly any time with you explaining things, and he treats you like an idiot. I was out of work for 3 months due to knee troubles, (had a mri that showed a cyst in my knee and oped to not remove it) went back to work for over a year, and was continuing to have trouble so I scheduled an appointment with him just to talk about things. He basically accused me of attempting to scam disability and that "he pays in to the system also" when I wasn't even asking for time off work. He then told me he never wanted to see me in his office again for any reason. I was completely caught off guard by his behavior when all I wanted was an honest consultation. Steer clear of this narcissistic, empty, unempathetic, amoral slime bag. He should have gone into auto repair if he doesn't want to deal in human compassion.
