To Harwood, I was a teenager guinea pig for him to torment and experiment on. 18 years old and on 12 mg of Xanax a day; was told I was a hopeless case; that I asked to be raped; that I'd die by suicide. I cannot believe he is still practicing. Stay away from this doctor. He ruined years of my life that I can never get back.

Absolutely the worst psychiatrist, if not the worst doctor, in Alabama. Even the assembly line at the end of the famous Lucille Ball routine at the candy factory was slower than the speed with which Dr. Harwood and staff rushes patients in & out of this office.

Both he and his staff lie to patients, cheat them out of their expectations for competent care, & steal (although not patient's time, it takes longer to park than to be ushered in & out).

To quote the Bible, "Abandon hope all ye who enter here".

David Harwood is a doctor who is complex, perplexing, and deep. You are not apt to know what he is thinking and asking will not likely lead to clarification. My experience with him was initially more than I could have hoped for... Genuinely concerned. His understanding of pharmacology is unparalleled. However, I believe that patient safety is not highly regarded when it comes to abuse of patients by staff. If you are not a patient who is easy to care for then watch out. His patience is not longstanding once you make him angry. He saved my life early on and gave me a reason to live yet when made aware of abuse and neglect by another doctor in the area he recommended incapacitation to a probate judge so as to ignore my complaint. It breaks my heart that a doctor who genuinely cares in so many ways turns a blind eye in cases of abuse and neglect. Patient advocacy does not seem to be a high priority. To this end, he is a good doctor pharmacologically and with coaching and encouragement and a fresh perspective might very well be the best doctor to see. I am glad he treated me initially and am thankful that I saw him. He has more strengths than weaknesses professionally and perhaps needs more practice with being honest with other professionals in cases of neglect and abuse. Other than that, he is the most knowledgable psychiatrist I believe I have had in 20 years. No one is perfect, including shrinks . I am still alive which says something of his skill given the course of my illness.

Dr Hargood was not friendly, it was an attitude that he was there to make money. I was in dire need of help. To make a long story short for the sake of you and your family stay away from this guy.

On your initial visit, you are required to fill out a computerized survey. The survey takes a long time and your insurance likely won't pay for it. It is allegedly to help with your diagnosis. With that said, I was stopped in the middle of it to see the doctor. He wrote me a prescription for medication I told him my insurance wouldn't cover. He told me that, if my insurance gave me any problems to call the office back. The prescription was written in such a way that it couldn't be filled anyway. The drug was non-preferred and I would have to pay the full high-priced copay for the initial lower dose, then pay another one for the remaining month. So, I called the office and left a message for his assistant. The person that called me back was not his assistant. She told me to stop by in the morning and they would give me the first week in samples. When I got there, his assistant came to the front and was very rude. She indicated that they did not have samples and that she told me that the day before. That was not what I was told on the phone. This is a mental health provider. People are very likely to be emotionally fragile. This sort of rudeness could have had devastating repercussions. Additionally, he couldn't have possibly used the unfinished survey to make any sort of diagnosis. The survey cost me an additional $60. It also malfunctioned about halfway through. I told the front desk and waited 20 minutes for someone to help me. No one ever came, so I wound up answering some of the questions randomly as they didn't apply to me.

Dr. Harwood is a very competent and experienced neuro-psychiatrist who understands how medications work on the brain. He is deliberate and thoughtul about prescribing meds and is very interested in ensuring you get the best therapeutic result taking only the medications and amounts you need. I do my part to follow his care instructions carefully as well as his suggestions for living a healthy lifestyle. My life has turned around since becoming his patient. I wouldn't go to anyone else.
