I had surgery in 2011 that was a C5 - C7 fusion...which is a surgery I'm told has a very high success rate.. Well I cared for wound well I had to go back in less than a week later with a severe staph infection in the wound that I discovered while looking in the mirror and my neck exploded all over. I had to go to have injections every day for 6 weeks of antibiotics to fight to beat the infection. At the appointments over the weeks to come I kept telling dr. Maddox that I still had no feeling in that I was hurting very bad he insisted that it was going to take time and that the pain was all in my head that I was only thinking that I needed narcotics.. so I proved to him but trying his non-narcotic experimental medicines for weeks the pain only got worse and there was no healing during my workman's comp lawsuit I had no insurance therefore dr. Maddox was doing this pro bono with agreement to be paid upon settlement or disability and even though I told him everyday I was hurting very bad and could barely get out of bed he started pushing me telling me I had to go back to work because the case was taking its time eventually he decided that he was going to tell me that there was nothing further he could do for me which was also referring to Everyday me going to the financial office that I had to come in and see him and then almost wanting to refuse to see me due to the lack of payment I eventually won my lawsuit however since the doctor told me there was nothing more he could do I forced myself to go back to work feeling lost so I went on till it started hurting again really bad discovered Dr Woodham of Dothan neurospine where he had discovered through MRI that the surgery did not go well said I fell into a small percent and that there was further damage going down my spine and that there is nothing he can do for me dr. Maddox does not listen to nobody all he cares about is getting his paycheck even though he knows he messed up both surgeries he got rid of me instead of trying to help now my life is shot thanks maddox

Dr. J. Paul Maddox has been my doctor since 2002. He is an amazingly talented and gifted physician. I have had four back surgeries and he has been my chosen physician. I had 2nd opinions before having 1st back surgery and was told based on test that Dr. Maddox’s diagnosis was correct. He has always taken the time to explain necessary test and procedures to me and referred me to other doctors when necessary. After a surgery in 2012 he brought Dr. Jeremiah Maddox, his son, into my room my room and introduced him and he also saw to my care while I was in Flowers Hospital. I am very at ease having his daughter, Ashley L. Maddox, PA C, see me during office visits, too. This is an excellent medical family who believes in God. Peggy Yon Mills

I had my first appt. with Dr. Maddox this month and was very impressed. He was extremely polite and took the time to go over my MRI and explain where the problem was. Even though I went there for a spinal problem, he also took the time to look at problems I was having with my right hand. He explained the problem and scheduled surgery to correct it. He also explained all my options for treatment of my spine and did not try to talk me into surgery like other drs. have done. He is working with me to improve my condition one step at a time and if it turns out surgery is necessary, I would want him to be my surgeon. He was late for my appt. but appologized and explaing that he was in surgery and it took longer than expected. I consider him to be an excellant dr. and was very satisfied with my visit.

J. Paul Maddox will spend an average of 4 min with a patient. He will not listen to patient complaints to make diagnosis but relies more on previous visits and chronic issues. He will not order tests at patient's request and oftentimes misdiagnoses a problem because he won't spend time talking to the patient and pursuing tests to confirm or deny an injury. Maddox also categorizes patients as 'good' or 'bad' patients. A good patient being one who shows improvement and doesn't involve a lot of time. A bad patient being one who requires time and costs the group money so treatments are often limited to a RX and further appointments. I have know J. Paul Maddox for 17 years as my own doctor who I use as a stepoff to get to other doctors. It was once said Maddox thinks he is God and once he touches yoou, you should be healed, if not, he gets mad because his ego is hurt. Maddox does not have a caring or sympathethic attitude toward patients in pain nor do I feel him quailified in spine surgery
