Excellent doctor, very knowledgeable. Wait time is too long, hours!

Dr. Minkovitz misdiagnosed the cause of my poor vision. He told me that I did not need cataract surgery but that I had keratoconus and that I should make an appointment to get special hard contact lenses. A second opinion from another ophthamologist was that my poor vision was caused by cataracts and not by keratoconus. After cataract surgery by this second surgeon with toric intraocular lenses, I have very good 20/20 distance vision without glasses and use over-the-counter glasses for reading.

I had problems with my contact lenses and a subsequent eye infection, so I had a few appointments within a two week period. In summary, Dr. Minkowitz is extremely knowledgable but he doesn't take the time to educate his patients or speak in layman's terms. The first appointment waited exactly 2 hours to see him and I actually spent maybe 12 minutes with him in the examining room. He not only rushed me through my visit and blew off my questions, but he spent 3 of those 12 minutes reprimanding the poor nurse who was in the room with us. The other appointments were not much better - my wait time was an average of 1.5 hours. Overall, he is fantastic when it comes to diagnosing and treating your issue, but be prepared to wait to clear your schedule for the rest of day and bring plenty of books etc to keep you busy.
