I highly recommend Dr McKenna. I had a referral from my Pulmonologist to see Dr McKenna for removal of a lung nodule. I was able to get an appointment in one day, and surgery the following week. He performed the VAT procedure removing 20% of my right lung. I had a small 3 in incision under my right breast and another small incision under my right arm. I had very little pain and was released from the hospital in a little over 24 hours after surgery! I have had a complete recovery, and continue my active lifestyle of running, tennis and hiking. Dr. McKenna is an excellent surgeon, professional and caring! I highly recommend him!

I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. McKenna. I was referred to him by my Pulmonologist who had taken tests and procedures as far as his expertise allowed. Dr. McKenna is personable and thorough. He does have a sense of humor but is not a hand-holding doctor. I respect that I was given information that allowed me to make decisions. I am a lung cancer survivor - 4 1/2 years now. Thank you, Dr. McKenna! I am also aware that there is always the possibility of something going "wrong" with any medical procedure, no matter how simple or complex. My heart goes out to others who have had surgery with an outcome that was less than optimal. Dr. McKenna does not treat his patients' conditions lightly. He does his best. He is very skilled and well-respected in the medical community. I totally trust him and would not hesitate to recommend him to others.

Dr. McKenna performed what should have been a simple operation. I had one nodule in my lung and it should have been a simple operation to remove it. Instead he screwed it up so badly that I now have multiple nodules where he dropped debris during the operation and he didn't even remove all of the original nodule, so that it has come back too. As a result it is unlikely that I will live very long. There is no further treatment available as a result of Dr. McKenna's ineptitude.

I've been going to Dr. McKenna for 9 years. He is superb. Was highly recommended by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn, as well as Standford Medical Center. He saved my llife from lung cancer. He caught in in the very inital 1st stage & I have been cancer free for the past 9 years. He is extremely knowledgeable, bright, caring, & a fantastic doctor. Excellent bedside manner as well. Excellent surgeon. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. McKenna immediately knew my "suspicious" nodule was cancerous. He operated immediately and saved my life. That was 13 years ago; few people with lung cancer can say that.

Brilliant surgeon. He's not warm and fuzzy. He's a man of few words and is quietly assessing you while you're busy talking. Very honest and direct. He will not take you as a surgical patient unless he believes he can help you.

I am dismayed at the assessment of their treatment in the previous reviews. On a scale of 1-5, I would give him a 10. Other surgeons felt the neoplasm on my thyroid was so large and impinging it would be difficult to insert a breathing tube. They said they would need to use the heart lung machine. Dr. McKenna looked at the CAT scan and believed with the aid of a bronchoscope he could get the tube past the restriction. Next they wanted to saw open my breast bone to remove the large tumor. He believed he could remove it thru an incision in my neck saving me pain and recovery time. I woke up 2 hrs later with no pain and in one piece. I was ready to go home the same day. Only needed a couple of Tylenol to relieve the mild discomfort from the incision in my neck. Two days later I am repairing broken sprinklers at home. By the way Dr McKenna was more than kind, answered all my questions and most importantly did an outstanding job. Nothing takes the place of an expert skillful surgeon.

Didn't take the time to ask me any questions about my condition and did not offer a differential diagnosis. Acted to busy to notice there was a patient with concerns that should be addressed.

If you love yourself or your love once avoid this doctor, he has attitude problem, doesn't consider anyone as human being, not even his colleagues, doesn't care about patient & his/her family, poor judgment, he dose what ever he wants to do w/out even listening to his own consultant, basically he is a killer not a doctor, it is a shame that this doctor still practicing, some body get his license.

This surgeon was recommended to me, "as the best". Far from it. I spent 11 days in the Respiratory ICU, nearly died as a result of surgical error. He never asknowledged the error and was unaware of the disaster he created on follow-up. He is arrogant, does not delegate to other competent staff. I am left with a permanent disability from surgery. Incidentlly the original disease is cured.
